What frustrates me most is continued struggles against bad pitching.  Make no mistake Quintana is terrible and Anderson isn't much better yet, the Cubs couldn't touch them.

At least Bryce Elder won’t be the Brewers starting pitcher.

Yeah, man Anderson hung several pitches that we did nothing with.  The one PCA threw his bat on in frustration was a classic cement mixer you couldn't have put on a tee any better.

Quintana is not as bad as some make him out to be - I think we just still resent the trade.  He has a career ERA of 3.7 and has not had an ERA over 4 since 2022 and he must have been hurt that year as he only pitched in 5 games.

I believe you've also used "rape" to describe similar situations having to do with baseball games. Maybe you could use language that doesn't conjure images of sexual violence to discuss sports? Wild concept, I know

Meant Quintana has been bad lately, ERA over 5, small sample size but, he's not been great,

Fair enough, bottom line we can't go 8 straight innings without sniffing a run again.  Just can't.

I'm way late on this but did I see Big Z throw out the first pitch today? Has he kissed and made up with everyone?

He was in the front row with Zobrist for a game earlier this season, so I'm guessing yes.

9 EDT for a game in Chicago but 6 EDT for a game in LA is pants-on-head stupid

I've been livid about this all morning. I understand that it's for Phillies fans, but some of us Cub fans also live in EST and are old and like to sleep, damnit.

Unless you are a fanboy, no one looks at Baez since joining the Tigers and goes, "Damn. I really miss that guy!"

You can hate Javy all you want, but the man is still standing and playing well in the playoffs. He was also an excellent Cub and has been nothing but great to Cub fans. So, myself, I'm not gonna hate that.

I gotta be honest, I don't hate the idea of sending Brown out there for as long as he can be effective.  I think @Jason Ross has mentioned a few times that the Brewers aren't great against velocity and Brown is about the only guy the Cubs have who has that in spades.  If you can get maybe 9-12 outs out of him and lean on Civale for a couple innings, you probably have a chance.  The flip side is that Boyd has been so much better at home than on the road and he's on regular rest, which you can't ignore.  Brown's numbers against the Brewers speak for themselves though.

Even as this board's resident Ben Brown fanboy slash xFIP truther, I think starting him over Boyd today would be crazy.  Saturday (assuming we get there) as the tip of a bullpen game spear?  Hell yeah let's ride.  Not over Boyd though.

Oh, it would be a huge risk and Counsell would get lambasted if it flopped.  Boyd on full rest, at Wrigley, with his track record trumps any other info on a small sample size basis and going with Brown would definitely be on the getting too cute path that I hated when he started Boyd in game one.
