When you think about the injuries, their best hitters checking out for nearly 3 months and the Cubs still finished, at most, only 5 games behind the Brewers.  A Brewers team that went nuclear for a month, makes me question just how much better or superior the Brewers are to the Cubs.  Hope they can find a way to get past SD in the WC.

I’m torn on the Mets.  I’m not unhappy to see them miss the playoffs but imho they had a much much much better shot to take out the Dodgers.

Do the Reds hold the tie breaker over the mets?

And the Mets are out!!!  21-10 after April, 62-79 the rest of the way, that's past Cubs' team like.  Say what you will about our Cubs but, they had just one losing month this season - March 3-4.  Which I look at as 3-2, don't count the Dodgers horsefeathers in Japan.

LOLMETS

Perhaps the ultimate LOLMETS moment. For that collection of talent (who actually performed, too), who had the best record in baseball at one point in the summer to die such a malingering yet inexorable death is almost incomprehensible.

I can't imagine being a Mets fan right now.

Wow, Tigers blow the Division and barely hang on to make the playoffs after the huge lead they had, and the Mets spend spend spend and get knocked out of playoffs on final day.

Who had the Reds sneaking in ?   Lol

Starting pitching, at the deadline they were in the same position as the Cubs.  Hurting for starters and everyone knew it, I'll bet teams were asking for the world of them for rentals, etc.  Just as I'm certain they did of the Cubs.

63-78 and the Mets would have been in. Crazy.

Tigers 34-43 since the end of June and they're in.

Cleveland were 15 1/2 games behind on July 6th (they actually broke the Yankees MLB best record of 14 games behind, on July 19th 1978, to end up winning the division). Cleveland were 11 games behind on September 5th. Wild.

Sometimes Assad looks like a quality #3 starter.

Mo looks fine behind the plate.

I've always liked watching Assad pitch. I'd like to see him  lose about 10 lbs for next season and since he missed about what....4 months or so, maybe the Arizona Fall League wouldn't be a bad idea for him to continue to hone his craft. Quality BOR kinda guy. Only reason we didn't miss him this year was due to Rea coming through. Starters for next year:

April: Boyd/Horton/Imanaga/Taillon/Assad/Rea....I'd like to see Rea get re-signed on another one year deal as he has a rubber arm and can flex between BP and starting....I think he earned a pay bump too.

Don't know when Steele will be back and Wicks is a consideration but you can't really trust the guy. Can never have enough starting pitching which we found out again this year with Steele and Assad hurt as well as Horton later on.

92 wins is a damn good year.  With a little luck here and there we would have been closed to 100.  Go Cobs.

Yep, Steele stays healthy this was a 100 win team

Birdsell and possibly, Wiggins, might be in the mix as well.

Yes, my mistake 62-69 since April, duh.  Was just happy as hell and forgot how to add.

They way the Mets lost, the inability to get the likes of Wagaman, Navarreto and Sanoja out is just excruciating.  Glad their fan base gets a taste of some Cubs like misery.

I dont think the Cubs would have won 8 more games if they had prime Pedro. Their starting pitching was not that poor

Yeah, it's pretty crazy to think Justin Steele would have had an 8 WAR season. Plus, if Steele is healthy, Horton spends way more time in Iowa.

If the bats didn't check out for three months they may have won 4-5 more games.
