I don’t see how he becomes a great QB.  He doesn’t see the field well at all.  His accuracy sucks.  He’s Justin Fields part 2.

Can you imagine Caleb Williams surgically guiding his team down the field to win games?  Me either.

He did last year a few times, but I still don’t expect it. He just doesn’t look like a good QB. He’s way too uneven. Caleb has to be a reason the Bears win and he wasn’t tonight.

Bears hire the most coveted coordinator in the game and literally nothing changes. Team is fucking cursed

Not to mention spent like 80% of their offseason resources giving him every offensive resource they could to make him successful. It’s one game but nothing looks different

hot take: everything will largely be fine

Nix and maye were trash yesterday, Daniels was a guy. BJ is still that guy and hopefully we get JJ, Kyler, and TJ back next week

I really don’t get why Maye is getting a free pass as the supposedly better player than Caleb. Anyway, bears getting 4.5 next week at Lions feels like decent bet.

He led the team on multiple drives in the 4th quarter on the road on MNF in his first game. He did pretty darn well!

Less than 150 yards and a pick 6 against the Bears preseason secondary..

He was saved by Williams sucking more and the defensive line forgetting how to rush the QB or stop the run as well as the previously mentioned secondary.

Against the bears defense. Which is awful. And with a bears offense that just kept giving him the ball back.

They weren’t awful until the 4th quarter and McCarthy made a bunch of good throws to bury the Bears. You can’t expect much more from a rookie on the road in primetime.

You can’t really forget how to do something you’ve never known how to do

No QB in NFL history has led their team to 3 TD drives in the 4th quarter of their first game

I was surprised to see my least favorite acquisition rush the QB. Although, McCarthy was doing a Caleb impression early on.

The bears defense is awful, the fact he wasn’t good against them early is a knock against him. They haven’t had a pass rush in years and the one strength, the secondary, wasn’t playing. A competent QB should easily decimate this defense

Did Santos or Taylor kick the ball off at the end?  I assumed it was Santos, but Matt Abbatacola is saying it was Taylor.  At least that would mean Ben knew Santos didn't have the leg, but it still doesn't excuse the kick not getting through the end zone.

If McCarthy went to Penn State, your opinion might be different.

Honestly. Kicking the ball out of bounds would have been far better than kicking it to a place it could be returned with the clock the way it was would have been far better. It is absolutely inexplicable that there aren’t people employed on the sideline to tell the coaching staff these things.

So heres the thing. He has a contract based on accuracy. He missed a medium range FG tonight. His whole value is derived from being accurate in the kicking game. He is quickly becoming **** on a boar.

Peyton and Eli were basically screaming for this to happen well before Santos lined up. Everybody knew it but our coaching staff.

You would think the team replay guy would know the rules also, to prevent an obvious bad challenge, but there it is. I was wondering why they didn't kick it out of bounds either.

Agreed.  There were several small things that happened that had an impact on the outcome.

-Kicking off with 19 seconds left, no excuses to allow a FG there.  Bears lost by 3

-Challenging that play...I don't know what the rule is with hitting the ball when a guy is down but not touched but he challenged it so quickly when chances were he touched the guy as he was punching the ball away.  Bears could have given themselves 55 seconds at the end instead of 15.

-Not doing everything possible to prevent a return.  What is a touchback these days? 35 yard line? What's kicking it out of bounds? 40 yard line? Either way you're getting ****** field position if you stop them.

Yeah. Anyone who actually understands gameclocks would get it but I have mever seen a Bears coach make an intelligent decision based on time, timeouts remaining and strategy in my lifetime.

And it was not a good game.

it was not a good game but he was a lot better in the 2nd half (post pick 6).  His first real game in 18 months, first NFL game, his pro bowl LT was out.  He wasn't good but I'd be more encouraged coming out of this game as a Vikings fan with McCarthy than I would as a Bears fan with Caleb but I suppose that's not saying much.

50 yards isn’t medium range, but NFL kickers make 50 yarders 75% of the time (Santos is around 65%). The other thing about that kick is that Santos barely got the ball there. He’s only accurate because he rarely attempts long FGs.
