They've got like 90M annually tied up in 2 players now.

I like Dak okay. He’s a good, albeit not elite QB, but I would be pretty hot if my team lost Parsons over him.

I think there were just too many holes to fill and I’m not angry with Poles’ offseason, at least not at the moment.  Faced with handing away huge draft capital for a guy like Parsons when there’s still holes to fill on the Oline, DLine, DB, even RB?  It just didn’t make sense to get into that sweepstakes.  But it made sense for GB.  I’d say barring injury the Packers are a serious contender now.  I have a lot of expectations for offensive improvement but the Bears are still shaping up to be 4th in the division.  Beating MN in the opener would go a long way to helping change my mind.

But good QBs are gonna stand back there and shred this D.  And there’s at least 2 of them in our own division.

I thought the Packers were at least a step and a half below the Lions going into today.  No clue about that anymore.

Packers are right there with the Lions now and I give the in-game tactical edge to the Packers.

The Parsons trade is one that makes sense for the Packers that wouldn’t make any sense for where the Bears are. Sucks to say, but is the truth.

If everything goes right this year, that’s the kind of trade you’d make next year.

anyway, I remain unintimidated by any of those teams, provided we actually make steps forward. We “should” have swept the Packers last year and I expect the Lions to take a significant step backwards. But, unfortunately, we’re likely another year away from serious contention delusions

The Packers will win the division. Detroit will take a step back. I felt that way before Parsons to GB.

Except Parsons (or someone like Parsons) will very likely NOT be available next year. If you want a player like Micah you trade for him when you can

I don't think this team needs the Khalil Mack trade v 2.0

Are we going to be seeing a DE addition this week? The Bears just reworked Jaylon Johnson's contract to open up 8m in cap space for this year.

That wasn't exactly a glowing endorsement for the announcement that Braxton Jones is the starting left tackle. That sounded more like, well at least he knows the playbook so there's that I guess.

I mean they waited until GameDay week to announce he had beaten a rookie 2nd rounder and a prior UDFA for the job.

What is with all the hype over JJ McCarthy? All the talking heads just keep talking him up. The Michigan offense was average in 2023. He basically is Trent Dilfer 2.0

Probably tough to really judge him based on the 2023 performance with the rumors he played with a torn meniscus for a decent part of the season.

The Dilfer comparison doesn’t make sense to me. Dilfer had a big arm but he was inaccurate and a total statue in the pocket. JJ’s game is built on accuracy, efficiency, and he can actually move around and make plays when things break down. Totally different style of QB.

Michigan’s offense in 2023 wasn’t average, they were something like 12th in the country in offensive SP+. Harbaugh ran a really conservative, run heavy system because he had the best defense in the country. It wasn’t built to put up video game numbers like Washington or Oregon, but it was still really good.

Within that setup JJ still completed 72 percent of his passes, threw 22 touchdowns with only 4 picks, and had one of the best efficiency ratings in the country. When they needed him to make plays he almost always did.

Not saying that means he’ll be an elite QB. He’s not perfect but he has a solid arm and great poise and leadership abilities. Like most QBs coming into the league, his ability to adjust to the speed of the NFL and being able to process plays quickly will be a big factor in whether he will succeed. Having O’Connell coaching him definitely helps.

(C’mon I had to make one last defense of JJ before I have to start hating him on Monday)

I'm a hater, but I wont respect JJ McCarthy after they didn't let him throw an entire pass for a 2nd half in a close game during their championship season

The game he messed up his ankle early and Michigan couldn’t block Chop Robinson?  It was bad enough that he was limping into the stadium the next week and they almost pulled him at halftime against Maryland because he was in so much pain.

If that game was so damning, he wouldn’t have been a top 10 pick.

I saw that.  I was at the same game.  The infamous Adrian Peterson game....he didn't have to wait long to get his first Bears heartbreak.
