I’m not so sure that was a swing but the umps wanted to go home. I’ll have to stuff that one in my pocket later when I lament how the umps always rule against my teams

No. It's possible. The Cubs have a really weak schedule and the Brewers have a much harder road. The Cubs hold the season tie-break over the Brewers. 5GB is not impossible today. It's unlikely, but this week has given the Cubs a chance.

Despite the near constant cynicism of the game thread crowd, the Cubs have won 6 of 7 and cut the division deficit near in half in a week.

5 back, If there's an opportunity for the Cubs to pick up a few games on the Brewers it going to be over the next 10 games.

Brewers have 4 against the Dbacks 3 against the BlueJays and 3 against the Phillies

Cubs have the Giants Rockies and Braves

Brewer fans are also quite doom-oriented so making them nervous is kinda fun.  They’ve been lamenting peaking too soon even in the middle of their streak.

Man, it's a damn shame they couldn't win the 5th game of that Brewer series. The division is still on the table, but it feels so much more reasonable if they win that game.

If they can at least maintain this 5 game gap in the next series (we play in SF, Mil hosts Arizona), then the next 6 games will be a big chance with us playing Colorado and Atlanta while Milwaukee gets Toronto and Philly.

I would say that in order for the Cubs to win the division and get the 1 overall seed, they would need to finish 24-7. Difficult, but not impossible.

If we get within 3-4 games of the division it likely means that we will definitely be ok with the wildcard and make the playoffs.   I'm good with that.  Just avoid the epic collapse.

It's certainly possible. I wouldn't bet on it but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

If Palencia in the future can improve on that secondary pitch it will help him tremendously. His fastball is definitely good but lacks any movement and his secondary pitch in my opinion is below average. It’s roughly 87mph and doesn’t really move which in turn is just slow fastball. He will get many more strikeouts by getting better at second pitch. His strikeout percentage is decent but considering he throws 100 mph batters make a lot of contact due to lack of movement and below average second pitch. What do you fellows see?

Division is possible but likely requires a Brewers collapse, which honestly, they’re due for

Or them playing .500 and the Cubs getting hot.
