Brewers will probably get swept this weekend by the Reds on purpose and then take 4 of 5 or all 5 from the Cubs next week .

The bar went from “having as a good of a chance as anyone” to “just make the playoffs and anything can happen”.

Those are not really that different

I know this was a joke, but I'm open to a strategy along these lines.  We already know the Cubs want a clean slate going into the 2027 season.  Offer a huge 1 year deal to Tucker or Schwarber, whoever is most willing to accept it, and fill out the roster with some other guys being "overpaid" on big 1 year deals.  Who cares if the Cubs go way into the luxury tax, since they will be a first time offender and will be able to reset anyway going into 2027.  (Of course, Tom Ricketts cares because he doesn't want to spend the money)

Willy Castro was a nice fit because the bench was awful . He wasn’t going to save the offense . He was in a bad slump as well when the trade happened.  They have bigger problems than Willy Castro .

Yea, Castro was just a fallback plan for Shaw if he went back into suckland, and to basically get guys some off days.

There was no hope for him to be a guy to ignite the offense just a reliable utility player when needed.

Cubs problem are the regulars

They are. It’s the difference between confidence and hope.

I mean, sure, but those are meaningless when ‘confidence ‘ is a 10% chance to win and ‘hope’ is 8%

Yeah I mean are we getting to the point where Tucker's been so bad, he might just sign a one-year prove it deal for a massive amount of money with the Cubs kind of like what Bellinger did a few years back?

2 months ago would have been insane discussion but that's how bad this bum has been

I told you a while back that the Reds will catch the Cubs in that September series and complete the collapse like the previous 2 years. Same exact way with crap offense.

In 2016 we had confidence this team would go all the way. in 2007 we had hope, not confident but hey, the cardinals did it last year with 83 wins. Right now the tone is trending closer to the 2007 team. That’s way more than 2%.

If you can’t feel this collapse coming I you haven’t been following this team the last 3 years. It sucks believe me I wish it wasn’t true but history of current hitters tells you this is what they do. Don’t be fooled they’ll all hit for about a week again and again will go into a funk the last 2 weeks to miss playoffs

It’s not a funk it’s who they are! It’s not going to miraculously change. Same players same results

It's gonna be OK. Take some deep breaths.

You were 2016 confident in this team?

If it comes to that, I'd pass if im the Cubs.

Id rather they just go with Caissie PCA and whomever in the OF over going through another season of playing extend him or not extend him and likely having him leave if he has a good year.

2026 Cubs will likely be built around  Busch Shaw PCA and Caissie as the main core with Swanson being that contract guy they cant move.

Guys like Happ Hoerner Suzuki will likely be moved at the deadline or play out the season if not traded in offseason

it would be so so funny if the cubs figured out a way to only win 83 games this year but i think they've built up too much of a cushion to let that happen

anyway i hate this team and they hate me
