I'm not even sure there's much if any savings here so I don't really get it. Like he's not bad but he's very bland unless he can stick in CF.

Greg predicted a $750K savings when he mocked Conrad last night.

If it's something that significant than I change my opinion on the pick quite a bit.

I really like that pick.

Why Jason. I am not doubting you. I am asking you because I value your opinion.

This reminds me a lot of Jaxon Wiggins. Different positions, but both had helium entering the draft year and both lost the year due to injuries. The Cubs jumped at Wiggins and it's been great so far.

Especially in this draft, if you can't get an upside monster like Witherspoon, then getting a top-10 talent with a top-25 slot value is a big win. Go buy a second prep hitter beyond this as well.

I hate drafting already injured guys, in any sport. It did sound like he was playing pretty damn well before the injury so hopefully it's nothing that lingers.

Will he be able to play any minor league ball this year? Or he is done until 2026?

This is a bad draft, frankly. It's unexeciting and the "big" names all have some odd warts. Liam Doyle throws 99mph..it's all he throws. Eli Willits might might hit 12 home runs, and he went 1:1.

So the Cubs went with a player who has enough athleticism who can stick in CF but hits well enough that he could slide to RF or LF. He's aggressive, but has high contact% in-zone. This is a familiar build the Cubs feel confident in building within, think Matt Shaw and Pete Crow-Armstrong. He had top-10 draft hype back in April and then got hurt. If you don't mind the injury heading forward (the Cubs don't clearly) than you could have a legitimate CF'er with 20 home run power, and you'd underslot him!

A healthy Ethan Conrad probably went 7-10 picks ago in this draft. I love this pick.

You'll probably see him in 2026.

This is why I was in on Gage Wood. There's tons of reliever risk sure, but he might end up being the best pitcher in the class if he stays healthy.

I would guess his shoulder medical looks like ass.

Ty Nichols is the guy who was in on Wiggins and Horton. Wood is also from Oklahoma, it's his region. Nichols holds a lot of pull in the scouting room. That the Cubs didn't take him, and they took two TJS guys in his region? Probably tells you what you need to.

I know I shouldn't think like this but the Brewers not taking Wood does a lot to alleviate my concern there.

If Wood makes it past the Phillies enough pitching smart teams will have passed on him that I'll feel comfortable that it wasn't poor decision making to let him go (even if he ultimately ends up awesome).

After Cole Mathis being a bit of a mess post-injury recovery, I really hope this team did their homework on his medicals.

This is the first person that came to my mind as well, that pick is looking like an absolute disaster so far so I really hope they know what they're doing here

In Mathis' defense, he's hurt again. He didn't really get much of a chance to show out at Myrtle. It's too early to call anything a disaster. It hasn't been an ideal start. The Cubs have been good enough drafting, however, over the last half decade under Kantrovitz that even if they do miss on Mathis, the amount of picks outside of the 1st and 2nd that they've hit on, they're due a dud.
