I agree with Floyd in regards to Busch, Counsell needs to just let him play versus lefties going forward.

Possible playoff teams going forward and teams they may face in postseason are gonna stack up lefties either in rotation or bullpen when facing the Cubs mainly because 4 of their top hitters are lefties.

Happ from left side, Tucker, PCA, and Busch

CC cant be going into these big games going forward and postseason not playing his best defensive first basemen and one of his better hitters because theyre facing a lefty, I mean damn, inagine Justin Turner starting 3 postseason series games cause a lefty starting or facing the Brewers in a big 3 game series for the division and starting Turner cause lefties are starting for the Brewers 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Busch need to get all the AB he can get against lefties now so hes ready to face them in bigger games...

I've gone back to May 24 so far and looked at vs. left-handed starters, and I've got 17 runs in 95.2 innings for a 1.60 ERA

I think alot of that has to do with Happ who already doesn't hit as good from right side  has been struggling overall sonce June, obviously Shaw not hitting, absence of Amaya hurts, and Kelly leveling off after a hot start.

getting nothing from Turner when he plays against them doesn't help either.

But yes after that hot start destroying everyone, they have leveled off hard against lefties.

I don’t get this logic. Turner is a better hitter against LHP than Busch is by any sample size of performance. Why wouldn’t you want your best hitters in the lineup in important games?

by any sample size? How about "June 1 - July 12 2025"?

But they really haven’t fallen off THAT hard

Last 7 days: 107 wRC+
Last 14 days: 99 wRC+
Last 30 days: 100 wRC+

maybe by level off you mean going from very good to average, which if so that’s fair.  But like here are some other NL contenders wRC+ vs LHP over the last 30 days:

NYM: 58

SFG: 58

STL: 67

(BTW MIL leads all of baseball at 144)

I agree, don't get why they don't just roll with their best players.  Busch is a 2nd year player with plenty of upside vs lefties, not a 32 year old platoon

I don’t know how to sort FG by date range and against certain pitchers so I’ll take your word for it, but it’s hard for me to believe turner has been bad given how poorly he started and that was he had (going into last night) like a 109 wRC against LHPs for the year vs Busch’s 91. Also worth pointing out that Turner is typically going to get all the tough assignments. But, fair, point granted.

You really prefer Turner over Busch starting in a playoff series ?

I dont know, I think I'd prefer having the glove first and take my chances with Busch's hitting.

I mean, it’s first base. From what I recall from last night, there’s a 20 point gap in wRC against LHPs. I’ll lean towards that. By all means, give Busch spotted ABs against LHPs (like they did last night, for better or for worse). But I think Turner gives you a better chance right now in that matchup.

Carrying Turner, Berti and Brujan on the ML roster is so stupid. Work it out Jed. Cubs are not the Athletics ffs.

Maybe your misreading or I wasn't clear in my post.

Im not saying sit Turner the rest of season versus lefties and just play Busch, though I personally wouldn't care if they did .

Im saying going forward that CC needs to or should start playing Busch more or as much as possible now against lefties because when they start playing those meaningful games against opponents like Cardinals, Brewers, other potential playoff teams ( and in playoffs) they need to beat and theres a lefty on the mound,  i think it would be best to have their main guy starting at first then Justin Turner.

As far as it just 1B goes, we shouldn't diminish the importance of having a good glove at 1B.

Carson Kelly as well.

I was wrong about Kelly.  I thought he'd come crashing down to earth after April but he's still been solid at the plate
