Now I kind of wished Seiya got called strike 3 instead of ball 3 (obviously given the result). I really expected PCA to do something good there

Was that Tucker AB as bad as Gamecast made it seem?

Yeah he looked really horsefeathers jumpy. He almost offered at ball 1 up at his eyes. Then a bad check swing and an emergency swing that was 3 seconds late for strike 3

He'll get right but he wasn't today

Again, the Brewers gain no ground. So no harm, no foul.

Exactly, in the long run, I don't believe the Brewers are a threat ultimately, it could possibly be the Reds.  If Jed can swing a decent deal for some starting pitching the Cubs will win the Central fairly comfortably.

Like PCA, we may not see Shaw have any offensive impact until next season.  I'd keep him in the lineup because, at least, he's defensively solidified 3B.  Unless Jed does something like swing a deal for Suarez and Kelly.

Would the Cubs have interest in Bregman?  That is a fat fat contract but they were apparently interested in him before the season started

If I am not mistaken, he does have an opt-out in his contract.

With that said, Bos just traded away Devers, so I am pretty sure they are committed to Bregman moving forward.

Well can’t win everyday.
but in the woulda coulda category if the ru didn’t leave in the first couple pitchers so long maybe we win but at least they didn’t gain any games in cheeseland.

I understand bringing Cabrera in initially. However,  after he had walked Contreras on 4 pitches, given up a double to Turang and fine 3-0 on Hoskins before Rhys got himself out , I think going to a rhp to face the righty would have been a pretty reasonable move.

TBH, I don’t understand why they brought in Cabrera. I was at the game and hated the decision. Jamo just got out of the 4th and I thought he would give him another inning. I get that 2 of the first batters were left handed, but I still didn’t trust Cabrera. And then when he gave up the double, why not go to Brasier? Oh well, can’t win them all. My guess is Cabrera dfa and Hisges is up. I know I am saying this after the game. But I did say it when they brought him in. I did not like the move. I was actually calling for Flexen in the 3rd inning.

We can’t treat every game like it’s October. We’ve got 10 more games in a row after this. This is counsells calling card and it’s probably an approach that comes out ahead over six months. Yeah it’s one of those double value games but we’ve got four more of those coming up on Monday. As others have mentioned, another two games down with them not picking up any games. It’s frustrating but fine.

this was also probably overdue regression from Jameson, if I can go back to my favorite dead horse. Get a starter.

I believe the offense is starting to show signs of coming out their recent funk.  The weren't dominated by Peralta today, drew some BB's, which is key, when they start drawing walks the big innings are coming.  They'll take two of three from the Mariners.  As stated above Jameson was probably going to regress but, I also believe he'll keep the Cubs in the game more often than not.  He's definitely not weak spot in rotation that must soon be addressed.

I get this. I am just saying I didn’t like Cabreral coming in. If not Flexen, then Brasier. He has hasn’t pitched in a while. I am not blaming Counsell for his decision. I realize he was one good pitch away from getting out of the inning unscathed. But he isn’t who I wanted Counsell to use. I don’t really like Cabrera. Again, I realize Counsell knows his pen arms better then any of us. I just wasn’t comfortable with his decision.

Don't really understand why they went with an off-speed pitch, which Cabrera hung.  A soft hitter like Collins isn't going to hurt you on hard stuff or at least, there's less of chance, he'll hurt you on something hard.  Should have gone hard sinker or FB on 1-1 then, maybe, go off-speed down and in or off the plate.  Just like Palencia doing Hill a favor with off-speed pitches.  It's only one game and, in the long term, probably won't matter.

Hasn’t this been his main issue throughout his career?

I haven't followed his career, but today he had no idea where his pitches were going

Well, we all knew this would happen eventually but Cam Smith is shaping up to be a really good big leaguer with a chance to be great.  The Cubs better find a way to keep Tucker otherwise that one will sting for a while
