Also a $241M Luxury Tax Payroll is roughly $220M in cash allocated to the active roster.  So the statements aren't necessarily in conflict.  The latter is how a lot of people still talk about payroll, because the former only matters to teams afraid of the tax line.

So what is the Cubs current number allocated to the active roster, right now? Do they still have $35M to spend where Nightengale and TR would be both correct?

Tom said in an interview 2 days ago with Kap that he thinks fans shouldn't call him cheap because he invested a billion dollars into the neighbourhood.  I'm not kidding.

Both interviewers kissed Tom's rump and backed up his excuses the whole interview.  Time-stamped to the question:

Calling it a "neighborhood" is cute.

Don't you remember that before Ricketts, Wrigley was just out in a corn field?

As you know, when talking about payroll, it's always the CBT number and never the actual cash payroll number.  But this could be a way for Nightengale to say, "I was referring to the cash payroll" if it gets close to the CBT number!!  Hahaha

I've been thinking a lot about this. Some might say too much. After reading Tom and Jed's comments about clean books and value,  I've concluded that Tom has told Jed to have as few commitments as possible heading into the next CBA. I think their (the Ricketts and some other owners) plan is to radically alter free agency. I don't expect that they will extend Tucker; next year, they will not make any long-term commitments to high-dollar players.

So no, winning is not at the top of the list for our front office and owner.

Billionaires radically altering the status quo purely for their own corrupt oligarchical wants? I wonder where they got that idea...

Ricketts, Crane Kenney exploring filling the Wrigley batter's eye with green bleachers and requiring people to wear green outfits head to toe.

I just made this up but you know he'd do it.

Ricketts family fulfilled the dream of winning the World Series, and now they don’t care about trying to win another.

I didn’t make this up.*Sad face goes here* 😞

It's hard to believe that pud has kids, but I would have horsefeathered him in November 2016.

Which makes it all the crazier that less than 10 years later, a man that was adored by this city has become hated. It's damn near impossible to waste that much good will in such a short amount of time.

And he would never have noticed the relative pittance of a handful of million dollars per year it would've taken to maintain that goodwill, or at least lessen the decline. But as we know, the truly wealthy don't really give a horsefeathers if us paeans like them, or else they wouldn't be as wealthy.

It almost makes you wish Ditka had won his title more recently...
