Fine. Trade him for something useful like a bag of kicking tees

No one is trading for him. He'd be on his 4th team in his 6th year, and he's coming off a year where he averaged 3.8 YPC. He's only had one 1000 yard season, so getting someone to want to pay his salary next year over drafting "a guy" in the 4th or 5th round is highly unlikely.

Fix the line and hope you get better production from Swift. Draft a guy to challenge him for the early down plays.

Disagree. You could use Jeanty in the passing game. Plus I’m kinda done with Swift, he’s a “pitch it to the outside or bust” back. Jeanty has shown the ability to do it all

I agree, I should have clarified, didn't mean Jeanty to be used only between the tackles, meant he's capable whereas, that's not a part of Swift' game.  Nevertheless, it's a RB rich draft, they'll be someone to draft on day 2 or day 3, primary focus must be the lines.

Was thinking about day 2/3 RB's I like Johnson Iowa, Judkins Ohio State or Skattebo Arizona State, one of them will probably be available.

Maybe a wrong call on my part however, I suspect the Bears know and have known who they'd like for HC.  NFL rules being what they are have kept them from offering and securing their target.  In the mean time all the interviews and such?  Well, WTF else are they going to do?  I don't think it hurts in the least to network and get varied opinions of their organization.  Who knows, they might be enjoying the Chicago media with their heads on fire going nuts over nothing.

I also believe McCarthy being unexpectedly available has added a contingency plan.

Prepare internally for the draft? Free Agency?

Maybe they are gathering intel of other teams around the league and Johnson is their guy

Or they don't have a clue what the horsefeathers they are doing.

Eberflus was fired in November, they've had plenty of time to zero in on their HC.  If this true and, it might be, we're doomed as Bears fans.  There isn't a reason to give the Bears the benefit of the doubt other than thinking no one in Poles position could be that inept.

I think being the only team reported (that I know of) to have requested an interview with McCarthy while he was still under exclusive rights with Cowboys was a big tell. Why even request that one week before he would or would not be available without asking if not to send a message?

That's a possibility, could also be a known cheater - Brady - has eyes set on our target.  We better come up with more options.

I think the Bears have a plan: Ben Johnson. Failing that: Mike McCarthy.

I don't love it, but thats what the signs point to.

Hope Monken is in there too.  A Johnson-McCarthy shut out is very plausible outcome... What's behind door 3

Yeah, Georgie needs to remove himself from any Bears business decision (fat chance, I know) because when it comes to Trace Armstrong, he's a doofus.

I hope the Lions lose tomorrow so the Ben Johnson hire to the Bears or whomever else is nearing a close.

It's kind of crazy that the NFL offseason progresses so quickly that teams may choose to forego their #1 choice of head coach because they would have to wait an extra week to talk to him.  Meanwhile, we are several months deep into the MLB offseason, less than a month away from Spring Training, and half the available players still haven't signed.

I've been having this thought that the only reason the Bears interviewed 20 people is to create a smoke screen to hide the fact that they were doing something not all that kosher. As matter of stradegy, baffle the public with the circus

.....and then the Armstrong thing pops up

Or the Lions keep winning, the Bears wait for Johnson who rejects us for the Raiders, and in the meantime Mike McCarthy goes somewhere else
