The trade, in and of itself, was not the problem. Ignoring pass rush aside from Sweat for three years is the problem. He treated Sweat like a final solution rather than another piece of the puzzle.

Braxton Jones out tomorrow with a concussion. Brian Flores is salivating

Sounds like Kiran Amegadjie is in line to start.  At Left Tackle.  Against a team that relentlessly blitzes and is top 5 in pressures and sacks

I know Poles has done a poor job but, holy horsefeathers the Bears have to be near the top in players lost to concussions and injuries to the OL.  Just another piece of bad luck to pile upon everything else that's gone wrong with the Bears.

This is very true.  People don't like to talk about it because it feels like absolving the front office and coaches, but the OL injuries have been absurd even by football standards.

Amegadjie sucks and this is going to get ugly.

Yeah, I don't know, maybe go no huddle, get Caleb moving and get the ball out quick.

It's been nearly every horsefeathers game with one or more OL going down, there may have been one game all season where this didn't happen.

a good friend of mine is a vikings fan and we're tempted to go to a vikings bar to watch the game tomorrow night. must be a glutton for punishment.

I've always found viking fans to be pretty easy to get along with; we both hate GB and I can always remind them that they are 0-4 all time in the Big Game. And the Vikes are old enough to preceed the SB, so it goes waaaaaaaay back

Not a great day for the Bears draft pick hopes. Of the teams ahead of them in the draft pecking order, the Giants (1st), Patriots (3rd), Jaguars (4th), Panthers (5th), Titans (6th), Browns (7th) and Jets (8th) all lost today while the Raiders (2nd) play the Falcons tomorrow.

The only hope for the Bears moving above the 9th overall pick is one or more of the Patriots, Jaguars, Panthers, Titans, Browns or Jets winning at least 2 of their last 3 games while the Bears lose out.

We could finish 4-13 after losing 11 straight games to end the season in a year we expected to compete and still only end up with the 9th overall pick because we played a ridiculous gauntlet of teams that beat our brains in all year (along with us beating our own brains in). Such is life as a Bears fan…

For the record, 4-13 with a .555 SOS (like ours potentially this year) would have gotten us the 4th pick last year, 4th pick in 2023 and 6th pick in 2022 😡

whoops, so used to them losing thanks. Either way, the scenario is the same. Need to win 2 of 3 and the Bears lose out for Chicago to pass them.

The Vikings were fun to watch during the Purple People Eater/Tarkenton/Rashad years. The Bears, not so much. In fact, I'm not sure I would have been much more than a casual fan if it weren't for Walter Payton. I missed most of the Sayers years because I was too young and only saw the end of the Butkus years. Payton made it where I refused to miss a game.

Yep.  His on field heroism created a life of angst for me too.

Definitely go no huddle and quick passing / screens as much as possible.  These deep drops are just scramble plays at this point.  I think Caleb just expects to go into backyard football now on those.  What I see is night-and-day difference in his execution.

For those who didn't see it, the ending was a challenge to find the dumbest NFL head coach. The Jaguars are down 3 with like 2 minutes left, with all 3 timeouts, and already in FG range to tie at a minimum. Doug Pederson decides to pass 3 straight times and kick that FG to tie with enough time for an Iowa QB to muster a game winning drive.

The Jets quickly drive the length of the field and with a hair over a minute left have a 1st and goal from the 1. Instead of kneeling a couple times to run the clock down and kick the FG to win they score a TD to give the Jaguars the ball back with plenty of time and timeouts. Lucky for them the Jags are trotting out Mac Jones so they were able to hold on.

I'm not super worried about our exact draft spot.  There's no Joe Alt in this draft to miss out on, and we're not looking for a QB

I saw a hype video for the LT for Texas (I think he won the Outland) and it was enough for me to want the Bears to draft him.  No more Braxton and I have little hope for Kiran.

I know you're dead set on Oline in the 1st, but I'd sure love to have a shot at either Mason Graham or Abdul Carter. They're probably going to have to finish top 7 to have a shot.  If not, I'm 100% cool with Will Campbell. As of now, I think the Bears will end up picking 8th. The Jets will win again, I don't think the Bears will, but unfortunately I don't think any of the Jags/Brown/Titans/Patriots/Panthers have 2 more wins in them.

I'm not denying it makes sense. I just don't want it.

Yeah I don't want to see another game where the Bears figure out a way to lose.  It's too much of a mindF*** for me, and I've seen enough for one year.

I expect them to improbably win a meaningless game and end up 13-14, just because that would hurt a little more.

I think they'll get a fine DE, DT, or T in the first round, but it sure would be nice to fill some needs in FA with all this money we have. Wright fell into our laps, but if Poles could have closed the deal with the RT who went to Denver we could have taken Carter, character concerns be damned. It's just a cascading effect from sitting out FA for two offseasons

Week 18 at Green bay has a very high probability of being meaningless for the Packers, would be a great spot to ruin our draft position.

You think the Bears can beat the Packers at Lambeau even when they aren’t trying?

That was gonna be my reply. Have you paid attention to any Bears/Packers games over the past…30 years?
