Whoever wins is already looking at a 2 day rest disadvantage against Penn State, and the next game is a week from tomorrow.

With the obvious caveat that public safety comes first, they should clearly be trying to play the game as soon as they can to not exacerbate the issues those teams are already facing.

Good point, winner tonight will have 6 days of rest while PSU will have 8.

PSU has to have had the best draw out of all these teams. I still think ND/GA winner will beat them

I don't know anything about the South Carolina coach, but he came across like a whiny moron who was getting played by the other coach the entire game and was unable to adjust.  The substitution rules are what they are, and he didn't seem to understand them.

First, this was a super fun game and I was very pleasantly surprised to see Illinois play them close, let alone win.

Second, yeah, Beamer seems to have some small man syndrome going on here.  The way Bielema explained his issue with the fake fair catch "signal" was pretty measured and makes Beamer look like a douche trying to game the system because he didn't think his team could beat the other one straight up.

Yes, don't where that team from last night was when they played Michigan.

Michigan has a better defense that they've showed at times this year but I really think Michigan is just in their heads.  There is no other explanation for a Michigan team that has no quarterback winning on the road against a team that spent $20m on NIL to bring in top tier talent into a team that was already one of the 3-4 most talented teams in college football.

It still doesn't make sense to me that Michigan won that game, but I'll take it.  It looks like OSU is going to rampage their way to the title and honestly whatever.  I don't want them to of course but if there was ever a year to handle an OSU natty its in a year where Michigan beat them on their field a season after winning their own national title and are bringing in their best recruiting class in several years.  I can live with it.

We were a missed targeting penalty away from potentially zero SEC games in the final four

Texas is barely SEC (or something, I don't know, look over there!)

I thought he was questioning you calling all four of the remaining teams blue bloods. It didn't even register to me either that Texas is in the SEC. So you're definitely not the only one.

ESPN has brainwashed the SEC fans for so long now their only hope is Texas( not really a SEC team at this point anyway).

Hoping Notre Dame can get by PSU, worried about the Love injury though.

I hope ND wins because that gives me the win in the office pool.

Either Penn State or Notre Dame is going to be in the championship game.  That seems wild to me for some reason.

It's kinda fitting considering certain circles of the college football Internet have included the two fan bases arguing with each other over who should be ranked higher for much of the season. I guess we'll find out who was right.

Two rounds in, here's my thoughts on the 12-team playoff system...

What works:

  1. Just about everybody that deserved a national championship shot got one.  Boise State got a deserved chance, even though they lost the game. Big 12 and ACC got shots they wouldn't have with a 4-team playoff. Nobody goes home deservedly short changed (except maybe Oregon)
  2. Home games in the first round. Electric environments, even in blowouts. Good enough that they should do it for every game until the championship.
  3. This was the perfect year to expand, because a 4 team playoff would have been a disaster. Who would have been the 4 teams? Oregon, Georgia, Notre Dame, and then choose between Texas, PSU, OSU, Tennessee, Indiana, Boise State, Arizona State? Nobody would have been happy, and a team that will likely be in the national championship game wouldn't have had a shot.

What isn't working:

  1. 4 byes for 4 conference champs. All 4 lost, 3 of them handily. Whether it was the long layoff or the seeding being messed up based on there being only 2 deserving conference champs, nobody was rewarded for winning their conference championship game. I'd propose expanding to 16 and inviting every conference champ, so the lower-tier conference championships at least have meaning. Then everyone gets a home game that is ranked high, and everyone is on a level playing field for the quarters.
  2. Quarters at neutral sites after first round at home sites. It was almost a disadvantage to be a conference champ this season, even with the byes.
  3. Having all the games on a network in the SEC's pocket. All we heard for two weeks was how the SEC got shafted and nobody else deserves a spot at the table, only to watch every SEC team lose and/or struggle. Now they're left with Texas, a team not even in the SEC a season ago and a room full of analysts and Nick Saban left with nothing to say.

I assume Ohio St is going to win it all, but I wouldn't mind seeing ND win just so they could give the middle finger to Brian Kelly.
