My preference would be 4 solid RHP, and 1 solid LHP.  It's a lopsided league for right handed hitters.  I don't know the answer, but do you know how many teams have won the WS 3 LHP, yet alone 4 LHP?

I dont know how many did. And frankly, I don't care what teams in the past have done. If we lived life worring about what teams did 40 years ago, we'd still have bad hitters leading off under the guise that they're fast.

Theres reasons we can debate whether or not Crochet is a good addition. I think "yeah but he's left handed!" Is probably last on that list.

If there was some team that demolished lefties, like the Cards a few years ago when Goldschmidt and Arenado were at the height of the powers, there might be an argument against four lefties.  As is there's none.  It's uncommon but there's not a real argument against it.

I have a hard time figuring out how a 3 team trade would even work.

Feel like the Cubs would need a second decent piece coming in return with Crochet to make something work like Varland maybe.

I doubt the Cubs would go something like Hoerner + Caissie/Alcantara + Rojas for just Crochet. And I doubt the Mariners would give up more than 1 top prospect for Hoerner.

Exactly.  If they can get their money's worth out of their signings they could project several wins better than 83, especially if they make a trade.  Their pythag wins was 88, which i don't take as their "true wins" but is at least on the right side of encouraging.

Also this convo is about timing and when they sign, which is different than who they sign or what the rest of the 26-man looks like.  Cubs were "aggressive" on Matthew Boyd and fans aren't overjoyed just because they signed him early.  I don't care when they sign another catcher or SP/reliever I just care who it is and how much they paid.

There money’s worth, lol.

Combined with the smoke out of NYC about Soto being imminent do we take this as the Dodgers being officially out?

I think the Dodgers are selling winning and Soto is going for the top $$$$.
Looks like 1/$17m for Conforto.

So does this take the Dodgers out of the Soto hunt?  Seems like it.

Edit:  Guess that's a yes.

I don’t really think he was going to LA anyway. But what it does do is take one outfielder away from teams that are looking for an outfielder. Maybe making Bellinger a little more valuable. Or might make the Cubs rethink about trading Bellinger just as salary relief. Maybe they had Conforto in their mind as a replacement. I am fine either way. Don’t want to trade Bellinger just for salary relief.
