Neifi/Corey with a combined 0-fer at the top of the order. At this point even Dusty must be having doubts about that experiment.

Hey, Dusty has been managing Mike Remlinger for 2 1/2 years now and he still hasn't figured out that Remmy is worse against lefties than righties. What makes you think he'll catch onto the problem of having two low-OBP guys batting 1st and 2nd?

I loved Dusty's quote about yesterday saying "We all know" Remmy is better against righties than lefties, yet he was still "the best option".

When Dusty brought Borowski in to face Jeter with the bases loaded, I said to the Cardinal fan in the house, "I don't know if I can bear to sit here and watch JoBo give up the 'slam to Jeter."

He said, "Jeter's never hit a grand slam in his life."

I said, "First time for everything."

I think he thought I was either just being gloomy or trying to put a reverse jinx on Jeter or something. But a few pitches later, Jeter launches it, and I just sat there. I didn't start yelling at the TV (something I do a lot when I watch Cubs games) or armchair managing, I just sat there.

He said, "I don't believe he actually did it."

I said, "I told you it was going to happen."

How can we all sit here and know things from observation, like Remlinger isn't a lefty-lefty pitcher and Borowski needs to start an inning or come in with the bases empty so that he can afford to make a mistake that won't cost us the game, and Dusty can't? I know that sometimes there are things that go on behind the scenes that we aren't privy to, but I can't imagine what's going on that outweighs these two nearly irrefutable facts.

Let's face it, Borowski is done, you know that, I know that , in fact, of Cubdom knows this, unfortunately, Baker doesn't. The only way Baker won't use Borowski is if he's unavailable, Hendry needs to make this happen by releasing him.

This thread needs a bump. It's gotten way to far down. For the first time in what seems like weeks D Lee came up with a runner on first base. Dusty either called for Neifi to steal or allowed Neifi to steal. Neifi gets thrown out to end the inning. D Lee finally gets to come up to bat with someone on base, and the coaching staff takes the bat right out of his hand. Complete joke. :wall:

Hard to believe this thread hasn't reach 100,000 posts yet. Baker has to be one of the luckiest men alive. He makes million of dollars, wins quite a few ballgame and yet has no clue.

Oh I thought this thread just became redundant. I mean, it's far easier to keep track of his GOOD moves... as there are so few...

he actually did make a good call by intentionally walking Carlos Lee and then putting Ohman in who then proceeded to strike out Overbay.

the call by having Neifi run with Lee up was unacceptable though.

Agreed. Ohman has pitched very well against lefties and I hope that Dusty will realize that this guy is a real loogy as opposed to Remmy.

That was a good call -- and Ohman did a good job to Overbay.

Top of the 7th Inning

Braves 5

Cubs 1

Cubs are batting with the bases loaded and 1 out. The pitcher spot is up in the lineup and the first pinch hitter off the bench for the night...Jose Macias.

Result of the AB: Strike Out

Not to fear, that is only the 2nd out of the inning. Bases still loaded. Back to the top of the order...and batting leadoff, again, for the Cubs...Neifi Perez.

Result of the AB: Out

Result of the Game: Cubs Lose

Result of Season: Dusty Sucks

I can't take it. If I see Perez leading off again, it's time to really kick this "Fire dusty" bandwagon into high gear. It is utterly inexcusable to lead off with Perez.

Dusty Baker said:

I find it very frustrating, and infuriating, that despite all of the evidence to the contrary, Macias is a Cub, and Perez is still batting lead-off.

Apparently, Baker does not like Hairston. Regardless, you have to put your team in the best position to win, and he refuses to do that. Why? Because he is stubborn - plain and simple. I cannot think of any other logical explanation.

Lineup, IMO, should be:

Hairston

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Burnitz

Barrett

Hollandsworth/Dubois

Perez

Pitcher

If Lee is sitting due to injury, both Dubois and Hollandsworth play, and you move everybody up one spot, and bat them six and seven.

This is a real simple thing to do that will put your team in a better position to succeed, but Baker won't do it.
