That was before the internet

Obviously it was before the internet we know today but there was internet...here are a bunch of articles about Manning from that time period:  https://members.tripod.com/~Peyton_Manning_16/articles.html

But, Mora calls the turnovers "a case of us self-destructing. ... We're minus seven in the takeaway, giveaway ratio. It's very difficult to beat anybody ... when you turn the ball over four times."

Manning has only a 17.4 rating on third-down passing, going 7 of 17 for 84 yards with three interceptions on third-down plays.

"We ran the ball the best we've run it, and that's encouraging," said Mora, who saw Marshall Faulk gain 127 yards on 29 carries and another 60 yards on seven receptions. "I thought we did a pretty good job of picking up the blitz.

"They blitzed about half the time. ... For the most part mentally, getting somebody on them, we did a good job of picking it up."

Mora didn't hesitate to point out what the problem was Sunday night at New England.

"The three (interceptions) he threw last night were mostly his fault," Mora said. "A week ago (the opener) there were other factors, but last night Peyton could have eliminated those had he made good decisions."

The bad decisions concern Mora, but he said he anticipates more.

"He's going through some growing pains, but still you don't want him to make those mistakes," Mora said. "We've just got to continue to work to minimize them."

"You sometimes watch it on film and say, 'That don't look like me out there,' " said Manning, who had only 33 interceptions in 1,381 passes with Tennessee. "Every interception has its own story, you say 'Gosh, I wish I hadn't thrown that,' but you did. All you can do is learn from it."

Williams offense produces one td in two games, defense makes it hold up for one win

Fields offense produces one td in two games, even better defense makes it hold up for two wins

Obvious conclusion: coaching was holding Fields back?

Mayfield was always solid. The browns talked themselves into solid not being good enough

Eh, I kind of agree solid wasn't good enough for them and what they are trying for (and there's kind of weird market dynamic at play vis a vie cost to retain), but they talked themselves into ignoring all the risks and red flags of Watson, which was really bad.

 this is cool

That is cool, though Caleb's body language looks like 'bro I won the Heisman over you 2 years ago"

That or " They told me this was the best situation a #1 draft pick ever walked into"

Indianopolis' best defensive lineman just went on IR.

I'm not currently wildly concerned, but my concern levels will go up to one full raised eyebrow if the offense continues to sputter this badly against a much worse defense than we've played so far.

People expect the rest of the season to look like early games too much.  Two years ago, the Bears started 2-1 then almost ran the table with losses.  Last year, they started out 0-3 with three bad losses, then were pretty average the rest of the way.

Looks like the QB School's Caleb review for week 2 is under paywall which sucks because unlike Week 1, I actually wanted to watch this one to hear his analysis.  Anyone sick enough to pay for it? (Kyle?)

You'd have to pay me to watch that

I haven't watched it but i saw some reddit or summarize it

Basically everything bad.  Complaints about play design, blocking, Williams not utilizing hot routes and missing some open receivers, lots of snark towards DJ Moore

I've re-watched all of Caleb's drop backs and a couple thoughts I have on reflection: The OLine, while very bad, was not as bad as I thought and Caleb was responsible for several of the sacks. The 4th and 1 play was particularly egregious - that was one where he hit the top of his drop, clearly needed to release the ball or scramble, and instead pivots and eats a huge sack for no reason.

The protection needs to be better and in particular the running game needs to be better. But it's not all bad protection.

I'm 99% sure DJ banged his wife/gf, it's the only explanation for how often he takes shots at him

He got sucked into one of those stupid "is X a No. 1" debates where it depends on how you define No. 1, and all the Bears fans in his comments yelled at in, so now he's half dug in and half baiting it for engagement.

A few interesting play breakdowns of Williams taking over blitz calls.

The missed execution on blitz pickup is *killing* us.  The backs and tight ends are being aboslutely brutal at knowing their assignments and executing them.

Williams has to start recognizing where the blitz is coming from and throwing to the hot on that side of the field.  There's one where they bring two blitzers from the left and he has to intuitively know that the swing left is unbelievably open, but he's intent on throwing right the whole way. He throws it away and doesn't take a sack, which is nice, but if you start hitting those kinds of passes teams will stop blitzing you so much.

This blitz pickup and some of the OLine confusion makes me think a lot of this is the coaching staff getting the team prepared properly. Last year the first game they had no clue what was going on and GB made them look absolutely awful. It took some time for the plans to come together and it seems like it's happening again this year.

I wonder if it's a cultural thing of overrating practice/preseason performance, the old Dunning Kreuger fallacy. Poles was out there saying how impressed he was with this group, how it felt special, so hard to make this team. The joint practices and preseason time against all vanilla/second and third string defenses and everyone if feeling pretty positive. 4-0 preseason record, LFG!!  Then when it's time to actually play the game everyone shits the bed and doesn't know what the hell to do without a Will Levis experience to give you the W

Only other thing is Caleb is making the biggest jump in talent and his OL and blitz pick up is at best confused and at worst trash, making the transition all the more difficult. But I think he'll get through it and be competent. Maybe next year we'll have to 4000 yard 30 TD QB we've all been dreaming about

I couldn't find a week 3 thread - but is anyone going to go out of their way and watch the Jets and Patriots on Amazon? I mean, major markets and all, but I can't imagine anyone signing up to watch these Thursday games.

I'd bet the % of NFL fans owning Prime accounts is pretty high, no?

I don't know. I guess what I'm saying is, if I'm flipping around the TV and see a game is on NBC or whatever I might tune in, but I'm not going to take the trouble to find the ap or log on to the computer to watch.

Funny, I was researching this just the other day. According to Amazon, they're pushing 230 million members worldwide and expecting to be over 170 million in the US alone by the end of this year.

BUT HOW CAN THEY AFFORD FREE SHIPPING? They made over $40 billion on the memberships last year.

Yeah, anyone married with a wife that uses Amazon is probably a Prime member.

I get the point about flipping around on TV and turning on the game vs consciously going out of your way to turn on the game via Amazon.  It has always been and will always be the most annoying thing about the trend of moving to streaming services.  It's not going to change and will only get worse so we're all just gotta have to get used to it.  I usually just follow the score and then turn it on late if its a good game.

The streaming device that allows the remote to "last channel" across apps will make a LOT of money (or at least get mine).  Extra credit if it ends the forced Miller Lite ad when I turn back to Marquee

I’m an old fart that hates streaming horsefeathers because I don’t want to have to take extra steps to get the game on my horsefeathers TV. Therefore, I never watching streaming games unless the Bears are playing. Even then I’m annoyed the whole time.

I pay for cable mainly because I don't feel like figuring out a system of finding stuff, even if its relatively easy one you figure it out.  I like knowing that I can throw on the XFinity Stream app when I'm on the go and want to watch a sports game without having to find a stream and worry about ads, etc.  I'm sure there's a way to do it easier than that but havent been motivated enough yet to figure it out.

I don't want to go to the trouble of jailbreaking Firesticks. I don't want to go to the trouble of setting up a VPN. I just want everything I want, all in one place, easy to find and preferably legally.
