everytime I watch the Bears in primetime the past few years, I feel like Robert Pattinson's character in The Lighthouse

me: I'm not going to drink

later me after several ****** offensive series: fine just one beer

1/2 way through the 3rd quarter no beer left?  I'll soften this karosene with some honey

next morning: (seagulls eating my liver )

If the Bears don't get the run game going against Indy they are in deep horsefeathers.  GB ran all over them, so did Houston.

I know that's captain obvious

Buckner is probably out too

I'd like to see more downhill running (Velus+Herbert) and mix in PA, boots and extra blockers.  Put them in less 2 and 3 and longs.  Oh yea, the false starts too.

Caleb does have a decent rhythm to the short and quick pass game. If they can find a way to get more long plays in there hopefully his processing and footwork or whatever is wrong slows down and he makes the intermediate and deep field an actual threat.

i don't think we've called a single PA or boot where 1 or more unblocked defenders weren't immediately crashing down on the QB. there haven't been a ton because we can't sustain drives but every single one has gotten blown up i think.

and there are not many QBs i'd take over caleb to trust to beat 1 unblocked defender on a PA or boot but the fact that they're crashing down so hard leads me to believe we just aren't fooling anyone at all

The "Poles ignoring the line" critique is a weird one.  A top 10 pick, a $10M guard.  Several day 3 picks.

That plus the Rd 2 pick he inhereted, it's more of an execution critique than ignoring.

Well he didn’t fix the problem so you’re just splitting hairs.

Is it weird?

When Poles took the job, he inherited an OL that desperately needed improvement.

The names he has brought in to improve OL via trade and FA: Lucas Patrick, Nate Davis, Ryan Bates, Coleman Shelton, Alex Leatherwood, Michael Schofield, Dan Feeney, and 34-y.o. Riley Reiff in the twilight of his career. Most of this list consists of depth lineman rather than starters, the exception being Nate Davis who he gave $10 million despite serious questions about his willingness to actually play football.

Maybe it's splitting hairs, but I've seen a lot of "ignore" and much less "he sucks" critiques.  Many teams have gotten better OL results from less.

Were there questions on Nate Davis before Poles signed him?

Yes, from what I’ve heard questions about his effort and commitment go back to his time in Tennessee.

And a third round pick this April.

I never felt that good about the Wright selection so him sucking is just annoying me a ton. Our offense is in big trouble if that OL continues like this. If the OL does belly-up and teams dominate TOP, our defense will get worn out.

Agreed. It's too late to gripe but I loved Carter even with the warts.

Ignoring the line is incorrect.

Ineffective is correct.

Who I like, but in terms of building this year's line is not someone I expect to factor in given the injury and his rawness as a prospect

So yeah it counts as something Poles has done to invest in the line, but doesn't answer what Poles has done to improve this year's line IMO.

I probably feel the least bad of any Bears fan after this game last night. I obviously don’t feel good but c’mon folks take a step back and look at this in the context of the whole season: they lost 19-13 to a very good team, on the road, the second game of the year, with a rookie QB. They have a pretty soft run going forward in the schedule.

Our defense, IMO, looks better than expected so far. The things that are concerning are primarily the run game and the OLine. (Which are worse than expected). Williams’s struggles are not unexpected nor do they entirely scare me. He’s going to hit on medium and deep balls going forward. His decision making so far is, on the whole, pretty good. Even if it wasn’t, I wouldn’t be in panic mode. Things could be a whole lot easier for him with better protection and some healthy receivers, but I expect that to improve (at least somewhat!) moving ahead.

im zen and patient about the whole thing

I'm not going to judge anything until they've gotten through at least four games.

I felt like that was at least a 2 or 3 week injury for such a big guy.

I want to give the line a few more games before agreeing they're bad.  But it's just horrible watching them get beat silly.
