I can't work up any actual care for the Olympics. But watching people freak out over the irreverent opening ceremonies has been fun.

it's so great though that you can watch what you want to watch and nothing else. No sitting through hours of gymnastics or rhythmic swimming to watch the things I like. I'm really going to enjoy this!

wondered if anyone here watched cycling. ITT is not very watchable.

I love it; ITT isn't the most watchable, though, I'll admit. The Mountain Biking was amazing yesterday

I've been enjoying the GoldZone coverage on Peacock (pretty much RedZone for the Olympics). I've always had trouble keeping up with the Summer Olympics, especially the not so popular events, so it's been cool being able to see all of the important action.

"to all the athletes who could not come and be here because Russia killed them. I dedicate this to them".

Badass.

Still better than Beach Volleyball.

They spam that sport so gd much that they forced me into buying Peacock so I can watch some Judo and Team Handball!

Every Olympics! And I still can't get into it.

Russia and Belarus aren't even competing because of the Ukraine aggression. IOC with a rare good decision

Too bad they couldn't ban Israel. But at least the French crowds have been giving it to them (and Joel Embiid) whenever possible. Excellent hosting.

Agreed - that MB coverage was excellent, both the women and the men.

The broadcast said Katie Ledecky now has all of the top 20 times in that event

I don't follow swimming close enough to know how impressive this really is but it sounds incredibly impressive

Just as a comparison, here are the 20 fastest 5K races of all time.  I looked quickly, but I don't think there's a repeat on the list.  Bottom line is she's the best who's ever done this and it's not close.

The right wing screech machine has seized on a boxer from Algeria with Swyer Syndrome, who was assigned female at birth and has female anatomy, as an example of "men being allowed to compete with women."  The memes are *everywhere* today, so it must be the officlal right-wing hysteria talking point of the day.

It'd be bad enough if it was regular transphobia, but this one is particularly galling because it doesn't even work with their normal transphobic worldview.  I Know fascists are playing calvinball, but this one bugs me.
