They need this game to have a .500 home stand. They are starting to crawl out of it a bit. The Cardinals took it to the Giants. Hopefully the Cubs can too.

Yep, start winning series. If they take this one they go 5-4 on the homestand. Not great, but a start. It would be 2 series wins in a row. Which is what they need to start doing. Brewers seem to be struggling a little now, as are the Giants. Maybe this is a good time to catch both those teams. String together a few more series wins and they are back over .500 and starting to gain in the division. It is a long season.  It they do need to start showing signs of coming around. Now would be a good time to start.

Yeah the Giants are in a real bad way right now

Literally only two healthy starters until next weekend, and Webb is going today.  The only guy at AAA pitching well would require some 40 man messiness.  Also Yaz is on the IL.

Winning 3/4 feels a lot more likely than under normal circumstances.  If the Cubs win 5 or 6 of the next 8 heading into the next off day that would start to make up for some of their recent swoon.

Sandberg Game anniversary is today. Hopefully that brings some good charm towards this game.

I'm watching it now. I was 13. I rode my bike to my Grandparent's house from my little league game, changed clothes, and hogged the TV to watch the game before hopping in their pool.

Thing to remember about the Sandberg game is that Bruce Sutter was in god-mode that season. Had a 1.54 ERA over 122 innings. He gave up those two HRs to Sandberg and only gave up 7 in the 119 other innings he pitched that year.

LMFAO. From what I'm reading here today, cubs don't need to improve, we just hope the opponents will be hurt a little worser? Look for the silver lining the jed-ness believers rely on.

Unbelievable, closers would pitch as many as 122 innings back in the day? Managers were masochistic

I miss the 1:20 start today. I'm watching the South side team to fill the time. It's like watching a softball game.9-0 through two innings.

Please quote the line that has you believing anyone has suggested the Cubs don’t have to get better? I have seen it mentioned that the upcoming teams are not playing very well now so maybe the match up doesn’t look as bad as it did earlier. And that is just a fact. Giants aren’t playing well, including losing 2 of 3 to the Cubs. And the Brewers are on a 3 game losing streak.
But I haven’t seen anyone suggest the Cubs don’t have to play well and start winning games/series.

Guys arms were falling off. Sutter was 31 years old in 1984 and only threw 154 innings for the rest of his career after that.

And overall, that was a generation of pitchers who could pitch more because they weren't learning how to throw sliders when they were 7 years old and thus blowing out their elbows at age 24

Canario's short stint in the MLB shows him ranked as the 3rd fastest bat speed in the MLB behind Stanton and Oneil Cruz per BB Savant.  Ahead of guys like Judge and Schwarber.  Massive raw power there.  Hit a HR today.  Would like to see him recalled soon.  Matt Chapman is 4th right now.

PCA now ranks 3rd in sprint speed per BB Savant.

Shaw, Pagan and McGeary collided in the Smokies game. Pagan left in an ambulance.

Darn.  Shaw seems ok, just hit a HR.

Did the cubs add a sleeve ad while I was on vacation? Does this mean we’re gonna get Juan Soto this offseason?
