Only thing that can possibly cheer up this fanbase is having Jed Hoyer for an interview on tomorrow’s broadcast and fire him live on air.

He needs to stop doing interviews and saying the answers are internal as the team gets worse. Just don’t say anything.

He has to, otherwise Tom would have to give them.

They have an annoying roster crunch coming in the offseason, too. If they do a sell-off, ready yourselves for a series of Yu Darvish type deals for lottery tickets in Low A.

They don't need to be a .600 club to make the playoffs but it looks like we will be selling. Not sure we will get much though.

Perhaps not quite .600, but if they want to get to 86 wins they need to go 50-36 from here on out which is .581 pace. If it's 84 like last year that's .558.

This month is an easy schedule.  This was their chance to make up ground.

Imanaga can have a bad day.  Why these hitters make every SP look like Greg Maddux I have no idea.  Something is very off.  There's no scapegoats here for me.  A lot of staff and players are failing at their jobs and are better than what they've shown.  No position player on this team is getting my All-Star vote.

I'm not nearly as old as Pat and I'm sure I'd feel different if it was my actual job, but I always thought if I were lucky enough to get one of those jobs I would hate the idea of missing games or innings unless I had to, because I'd want my voice on any call of something crazy happening.

Perhaps like pat, who has dysplasia and has had 3 throat surgeries, you'd appreciate a respite once in awhile to re-gather your strength?

Why would they sell if they are a few games from the WC / playoff?

They have to be realistic of their chances, not to just make it but actually advance.

Yep, sick of it. A real “yes” man response.

You get in with some good starting pitchers you have a chance. Look at AZ last year.

This isn’t a thing. No front office will ever look at their team who makes the playoffs as a team that cannot advance. However, I do understand your point. They aren’t as good as the top teams, and no trade or trades are going to change that.

But if a FO went about their business this way, every team except the Phillies, Dodger and Braves would be selling in the NL. They may still sell at some point. But IMO that would only happen if they were 3-4 games out of the WC spot and most definitely closer to the deadline.

As a fan of the team I do understand your comment. And most likely at the end of the year, with hindsight of what happened you will be able to come back here and say “I told you they should sell because there was no way they could beat the Dodgers/Braves/Phillies”. Just like people did last year when they fell a game short. But you know a team whose fan base didn’t say that last year? The Dbacks. The year before, the Phillies. Perry much every year you can find a team who is not as talented as the top team in the league beating that team.

I agree with you, my point was just if Hoyer going to move young access at the deadline,  I just hope it for someone that will at least make them more competitive and not just help them at least have a shot at the postseason on September but will also be a part of the team next season.

I just don't want them to trade access for a band ade or two that won't make much of a difference this season and or won't be a part of the team next season.

I don’t agree with that. I think they will make small moves like a possible closer sort of guy, like Seward was last year, and an inning eating staring pitcher. Not give away a top 15 organizational guy. I don’t expect a big move on a guy like Alonso, as an example(or Guerrero, Robert or whoever else might be traded) Teams in the position the Cubs are in (which makes up probably 8 teams in the NL) just aren’t going to go big and give up top prospects for only a chance at the playoffs, IMO. Those bigger moves will be for teams like the Dodgers, Braves, Phillies and maybe even Milwaukee (assuming they keep a big lead in the central). I actually think the idea of Anderson and the Angels closer makes a lot of sense for the Cubs. It isn’t going to be this major deal, but it is probably all they should be doing.
