Lmao the cubs are really gonna try to win another game 1-0.

well this is a win win for me. Either the Cubs get a really needed victory or I get to update my “blown leads in the 8th or later” stat.

Also bonus points if they blow it this inning so I can update my “blown lead in the first inning after the bullpen comes in” stat which I will try to compile if it happens

I think pitch count as a tool for preventing arm injuries is probably more meaningful in the aggregate rather than looking at one individual game.  I tend to agree that a guy throwing 110 pitches versus 90 for one single start likely doesn't make much difference.  You just don't want to do it on a regular basis.

I can definitely agree with you there. More frustration on my part given how the last week has gone.

Leiter

Leiter’s a heart attack.  I know he’s got stuff.

Merryweather wasn’t found in a dumpster.  He was found in Toronto.  I’m splitting hairs a little there.

Has Amaya thrown out a basestealer this year?  I'm shocked they didn't send Frelick in that at-bat.

I just looked it up and apparently he has thrown out 5 this year?

I would have been ok with stretching him if a) the Cubs had more than a 1 run lead, b) the Cubs had shown any sign of life at the plate that would lead me to believe another run was possible, c) the Cubs werent in a 2-9 stretch where they desperately need a win and playing the 1st place team (I know its only May but you should probably avoid falling farther back if you can).  In this situation, 1 mistake takes a much needed win into yet another likely heartbreaking loss, and Brown almost threw that mistake in the last inning.

On the flip side, is the Cubs bullpen really any better than a fatiguing Ben Brown?  It's a good question.

Let Brown keep going,  only 78 pitches so far and he's still throwing hard.

They can skip his next start with Wick

Glad they left him in. Surprised but glad. I don’t think Wicks will be in the rotation next time through. Threw 51 pitches and they said they want to give him one more. I don’t think 93 pitches should effect his next start.

Cubs going with the same approach we tell my son's little league team... don't even throw down on the stolen base attempt.

Glad their bench bats are as good as ours. Clutch from Leiter

Good job Leiter.  Now we just have to survive Neris against the top of the Brewers order lol
