I'm not in favor of paying money to a WR in his age 33 season or beyond. I know Allen is still really good, but he has also missed 11 games in the last 2 years. And as we see this year and saw as recently as 2021, there are literal tons of good young WRs coming into the draft every year.

Which is why I still want them to draft Odunze. You don’t miss out on his talent for 1-3 years of Allen and his injury susceptibility.

Curious who you think the sleeper/Nakua is in this draft.

I just think I would keep a guy who catches 70% targets and was on pace for almost 140 catches. Those guys are invaluable to me. Clearly elite route running and game smarts.

I know I'm going to regret saying this but - if Caleb Williams is even half decent as a rookie I think this is a playoff team. The biggest issue is... the division is pretty stacked. The Vikings are obviously the weakest link, but they're a team that always stays competitive and rarely bottoms out. The Packers are the youngest team in the league and annoyingly have, seemingly, against all odds, a good QB again. The Lions are coming off an NFC Championship appearance and as a clear 2nd best team in the NFC last year but... well, hangovers do happen. And the Bears as a pretty middling team really had their number in 2023 and should have swept them in the divisional series. ("should").

So it wont be easy. But they should be good.

I dont know how stacked they are.  I think all the teams are good but none of them are great.  I know the Packers are the youngest team and the Lions almost made the Super Bowl but meh.  Their records were elevated last year because all the teams had ridiculously easy schedules last year.  I could be way off, but I don't see a juggernaut in the division that I'm afraid of.

There's something about the Lions that screams "paper tiger" to me and I'm not quite sure what it is. It may be that they looked extremely vulnerable in their match ups with the Bears, it may be that whenever I see a head coach who's a big time Emotions guy who makes poor strategic decisions I see doom on the horizon.

So with the Allen trade, whichi I believe is a $23.1m cap hit, where do the Bears stand with regards to the cap? Just curious if the Bears are still in a position to make any notable moves.  Definitely still some interesting players out there but not sure how aggressive we'll be at this point.

I don't know exactly where they sit since a lot of the new contract details aren't up on OTC yet.

But thet can make any move they want.  They have flexibility to move a lot of hits, if they want.

Realistically and based on how Poles has operated this is the last major move until heaybe hits up the post draft signing period. Maybe you'll see a 5-7M signing in that period, but I'd be surprised if any big contract, either via read or signing is coming. Though, I didn't expect a Allen type trade either, so what do I know really?

Simple. Their QB is Jared Goff.  And even then, that's probably still a net positive for 2024 based on his contract, but once he gets a new contract, they'll become mired in QB hell.

I mean, yeah Keenan Allen is great. He had one of the best seasons of his career last year. 6th in catches despite missing like 4-5 games. But how long can he be that great? The league isn't hurting for great WR talent. The Bears are fine, money wise, but it's still not going to be good to have a 33-34 year old WR taking 20-25Mil of the cap space if he's not on the field or has clearly lost a step, which are clearly possible outcomes in the near future for Allen.

Yeah, I'm fine with taking him as a rental, and I'm fine with giving him a very short extension, but I'm not eager to go 4/60 on him or whatever.

I know I’m in the minority but I horsefeathers hate this with a passion. Williams better be a goddamn HOF’er.

He better be.

as for Fields, he’ll get a chance to learn from someone whose been in the SB and knows how to play at a high level, and with a OC who likes running QBs. might be the perfect place for him

I hate that it had to happen but it was absolutely the right move and I’m happy they made it. But I’ll be cheering on fields. He had obvious flaws but he was exciting and fun and represented the team well.

The Bears set him up for failure and then wonder why a 6th round pick is the best they could get. horsefeathers horsefeathers show of a franchise.

The lack of a return speaks volumes

shoulfnt have traded him

For a 6th they should have just made him the back up. A 6th is damn near just cutting him.

Nah. He just needs to be below average and it's an upgrade

While I didn't expect a 3rd or anything, I'm baffled as to why Pickett netted what he did and Justin only brings back a 6th with potential to be a 4th. I mean Pickett super sucks at least as much as Fields.
