I don’t hate Eberflus but I think you can absolutely upgrade from him and I would prefer an offensive coach, especially if we’re drafting a QB. There’s nothing I find special that he brings to the table.

Ron Rivera feels like almost a guarantee. I'd think Art Smith would be too, but Atlanta's owner seem to love him for whatever reason. I wonder if Jacksonville's epic collapse cost Doug Pederson his job?

As a Packers fan, my hope would be that DC Joe Barry is not retained. Technically, it wouldn’t be a “firing” as his contract is up. I’m a bit worried that a couple of good defensive games the past two weeks gets him an extension.

News dropped 2 minutes after midnight eastern.  Has to be a Black Monday record.

That’s the 3rd team this year that lost to the Bears and later fired their coach.

Ron Rivera should probably be nervous. O’Connell, Gannon and Campbell should probably be safe.

If more than half the teams you beat fired their coach you get fired too. It's the rule.

Loved him so much, he gave him 2 minutes of the offseason to think he was safe. LOL.

I just don't think, if you're the Bears, you can't continue with what is pretty clearly the worst head coach and QB in the division. Maybe it's not super far off between the Vikings HC and Flus. And obviously a new HC and QB doesn't guarantee any better, but you simply can't tie another year or 2 when there is too much proof these guys aren't good enough. You also have the biggest asset in football with the #1 pick and potential head coaches will be knocking down the doors to get the job. You can't pass up these opportunities to try to salvage an "improvement" at the end of this season, which ultimately ended 4-3, when there's enough to say it's not good enough.

Yes. On top of all that, the DC disappeared and they fired their RB coach for likely spreading rumors. That shows a lack of leadership ability in the head coach. He's ultimately responsible for all that.

They cannot put another QB in a situation where the head coach is a potential lame duck. If they let go of Fields, they need to clean the slate.

I said early in the season, you can't give Flus another young QB and you can't give Fields another new offense. The FO has to see this. This is what every other Bears FO has done and it has literally never worked. What's the definition of insanity again?

Eberflus still has two years left on his contract.

It is entirely possible they don't see him as a lame duck at all

They never view the lame duck as a lame duck. That’s not how it works

Traditionally the definition of a lame duck coach is one that is going into the last year of his contract without any attempt to extend him.

I understand taking a bit of license of the coach in question isn't on his contract year but seems particularly disliked by management and on the verge of getting fired.  But Warren seems pretty happy with Eberflus and the team seems to be on a positive trajectory.

I don't particularly like eberflus, he's an enabler of the exact Bear Football style that I never wanted and that I don't care for Poles building toward.  But it doesn't seem like his hold on the job is precarious enough to impact our draft decisions.

Yea lame duck discourse has somehow shifted where it's now a guy with 2 years left.  Soon it will be 3 years IF the fans/media really don't like the guy.

If it's not going to be used on a coach/GM in their final contract year it's basically 100% a media created talking point.

They're gonna have to tread carefully with the Rooney Rule...

Why? Doesn’t Poles himself meet that qualification? (At least I thought GM was also subject to it, but may not replace the coaching mandate, but in any event, Harbaugh could bring in a minority OC and cover the issue)

No, Poles doesn't "cover it".  Anytime there is an opening for GM or HC (think assistant GM and coordinators now too) they must bring in minority candidates fir interviews.  The only weird loophole I think was if it occurred outside this year end hiring cycle, like an in season hiring, may be exempt.

I think Detroit is the only teams penalized in past, in 2003 were fined 300k.  Seahawks were almost gonna get penalized when they hired Carroll, but got some sweetheart deal with a token interview they gave to Frazier.

But in today's climate and the NFLs continued interest in the topic I'd think anyone slipping up could see draft pick fines and not just a measly 300k.

they got to fire the guy already in the seat. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Do you think they'll make an announcement if they're sticking with the status quo? Like an announcement to retain Flus and Getsy? or will we only get an announcement if there are changes?
