this is the best Cubs rotation I’ve seen in my life, and as soon as Hendricks leaves after this year they can insert the best pitching prospect in baseball in his place

What a time to be a Cubs fan

I wouldn't go that far yet. But I think it's a fun rotation start (even more when Horton comes up) if they can work with Imanaga's fastball location. I think a solid 3 fWAR season is on the table here.

With this signing Jed can honestly say he was his first realistic choice and that is why it took so long for a first move. I would expect more to follow soon”ish”.

Why do you ask. Do you get off thinking about 7 year olds? 😂

I mean they did have a world series rotation just 7 years ago and this one is certainly not better, so......

I think most if not all of us remember 2004: Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Maddux, Clement.

That was the best rotation in my life. At least on paper.

IMO Cade just as a prospect stacks up to anybody on that list, Steele could be a top 10 pitcher already.  You are right though that 04 team was deep..

A side effect of this signing is me seeing that the rest of MLB fans seem to think that Wrigley is still this HR hitter's paradise that it was like 20 years ago, meanwhile it's park factor is pretty much neutral over the last almost 10 years.

Easily. That rotation was incredible and got ran into the ground.

Prior was a better prospect. Not by a ton, but he was rated higher and had a much superior pedigree.

I just made myself so sad. I wanted to check if Juan Cruz was still on the Cubs in 2004,  he was gone after 2003, but then I saw that he's now 45 years old.  Now I just want to curl up in a ball and lay in bed.

Yeah, Prior remains the best Cub pitching prospect, probably ever, upon callup. At least in terms of hype/pedigree/industry rating. That almost assuredly won't change when Horton comes up. But Horton is the best *since* Prior.

Prior was a generational prospect like David Price, Steven Strasburg, Bryce Harper. Horton is super exciting and there are very few people I'd trade him for, but he's not even the #1 pitching prospect in baseball now and in some people's eyes he's more like #5 or #6, though I personally have him at #3. There's was an ocean of difference between the hype between Prior had and what Horton currently has.

Wood??? I think he would be over Horton too. Maybe not, but he was pretty special too. I know Peior was after Wood. Just wondering why Wood isn’t mentioned by others.

horsefeathers steal.

If that number is accurate, we dance in the streets because that leaves about 10M on the board for spending I did not expect to have.

I didn't mention mention him with Horton because of the "since" Prior thing (as you noted). But Prior still gets precedence over Wood. The draft pedigree and the hype surrounding Prior was...insane. I think the internet really helped there, at least on hype. Even the 5 years between the two on debuts...internet really took off. Wood took three years to come up. Prior took about one year in the Minors and was already the #2 prospect. Wood topped out as a top-3.
