Season 3 Nbc GIF by The Office
Fields will not be the QB next year unless he manages to pull off a run here, and that would include an upset victory over the suddenly shaky Lions.

If the song remains the same, then

our relatively short regional nightmare is likely coming to a close.

We get two weeks to stew on a forgettable victory. The discourse will be stale. But it will be, nonetheless.

Buckle up kids, let’s see if Justin Fields has more tricks up his sleeve.

Fields status for 2024 is some very large number (98% ?) based upon Carolina (and I guess Arizona, New England).

I'm not taking a Kyle-ian stake on Fields, but the dream is gone.  Only an unlikely Hollywood script miracle revives it.

Hopefully some day someone connected with the Bears during Poles's time as GM writes a tell all book on the dysfunction of the organization.

I feel like you could write a tell all book from any post 1960s era of the Chicago Bears. Poles isn't running an any more or less dysfunctional organization than the last 15 GMs before him.

The only team I think might reasonably snatch away the #1 pick from the Panthers (and ergo, the Bears) are the Patriots.  They have a pretty rough schedule down the stretch and man oh man do they look bad.

I'm fairly confident the Cardinals will scratch out another win somewhere.

I could also see the Panthers stealing a game or two somewhere, between the interim coach "bounce" and having an NFC South-heavy schedule down the stretch.

Have you seen ‘Zona’s schedule?

@ PIT

vs SF

@ CHI

@ PHI

VS SEA

Unless they beat the bears in Chicago they aren’t winning another game.

Arizona

@ PIT, vs SF, @ CHI, @ PHI, vs SEA

New England

vs LAC, @ PIT, vs KC, @ DEN, @ BUF, vs NYJ

Carolina

@ TB, @ NO, vs ATL, vs GB, @ JAX, vs TB

Arizona has 3 winnable games, but won't be within a 4 point spread of any of those teams. NE could conceivably beat the reeling Chargers or Jets, and also go to Pittsburgh, in a game that may make NE/NYG look like a shootout. Carolina has by far the easiest schedule, but luckily for us, they basically have to win 2 of those games.

So, believe it or not, the Bears are up to 9th in defensive yards allowed at 318.5 a game. They're #1 against the rush at 79 ypg and up to 25th against the pass at 239.5. There's still a lot of questions on the other side of the ball, but the defense is really rounding into form.

I could see them winning 2 or 3 more games down the stretch.  Fields is starting to transform into some sort of game manager and has cut down on the sacks a little.  The defense is proving it can shut down bad QBs.

Thank goodness we have the Carolina pick

Hilariously, on the season, the Bears have gained more yardage offensively than they've allowed on defense (3,879 to 3,822). I don't know the last time that's been the case....2018 maybe?

2018 is correct, but I'm shocked at how close we were in 2021 (5225 vs 5384)

Honestly, this is why I feel like Poles trades the 1st pick and rolls with the status wuo

ONE MORE YEAR BABY

and maybe that’s better, if they win in 2024 they have talent and picks galore, if they lose Warren finally cleans house and they have picks galore

its a working theory

FWIW, I don't think it's going to take that much of a miracle run to push the Bears towards giving Fields another year.  This organization has a long history of convincing itself that mediocrity is an indicator of future success.  They'll hang on to a few great plays by Fields (such as last week) and minimize the many mistakes.
