The question of whether UM got a competitive advantage from the in person scouting seems to be answered by the fact that they kept doing it. If they weren't seeing results - and the results frankly speak for themselves given that this stuff apparently intensified after the COVID season and Michigan instantly became a conference juggernaut in that time - why would they do it for 3 straight seasons?

If it was such a competitive advantage why has Michigan continued to beat opponents since Stalions was “discovered”?  All the evidence seems to suggest that he was a fanatical Michigan fan who wrote a 500 page manifesto detailing his plans for the Michigan football program.  He was obsessed with endearing himself to Michigan coaches and clearly willing to go outside the lines to gain acceptance. That’s not to say that the coaches didn’t know about it, I’m really not sure at this point.  But I can totally see why he’d go to these ridiculous lengths to try to steal signs despite other teams doing it legal ways and exchanging the information with each other.   What is the difference between getting the signs from teams that just played Michigan plus all 22 and broadcast info and getting it but sitting 20 rows up in the stands and using your cell phone to record? I really don’t think there is much of a competitive advantage but who knows?  No one knows because no one spent no time investigating this before throwing out mob rule pushed suspensions.

Also the cries about the COVID season being a point of inflection are stupid. Michigan was 1 inch from the CFP in 2016 and a win away in 2018  they won 10+ games in 4 of Harbaugh’s first 5 seasons.  The COVID season was weird as hell. Penn State started 0-5, Indiana almost won the conference, etc  to act like Michigan was in dire straights as a program and needed to concoct this plan to capture grainy film from the stands of opponents games in order to save their program is ridiculous.  They were in fine shape as a program from 2015-2019,  They made an extra step in 2021 on the backs of several players who are currently excelling in the NFL, and a coach currently leading the best defense in the NFL.  They continued to succeed partially because they brought in the highest rated QB since Harbaugh came to Michigan

I can’t remember the last time I was this mad about something sports related.

This is the last post I’ll make on this topic and won’t be replying to any others as I know I’m in a crowd that doesn’t want to believe Michigan is anything but gutless cheaters and that’s fine, I enjoy conversing with most of you on all other topics and I know if this scandal was happening to OSU I’d be just as close minded, all good.

One is legal and the other isn't.

Multiple things can be true. UM/Harbaugh can be guilty as horsefeathers for cheating, and they can be a top 3 team in the country. Your biggest worry should be the new juggernaut emerging out of the west, not tOSU.

Because Michigan is, at an absolute minimum, pretty darn good and literally none of the teams they have played against are good? Seems a reasonable hypothesis

Yes, and the Astros might have won the World Series without cheating too. Doesn't mean it wasn't cheating.

Anyways, Penn State's inability to get off the field on 3rd down was the difference in this game. They looked like the '85 Bears on 1st and 2nd down, but couldn't stop Michigan on 3rd and long

Bama seems back to death machine mode and UGA seems to have figured things out. Maybe this season wasn't as wide open as it once appeared.

Yet, they won, most definitely in spite of Bielema.

Oh by the way, their backup QB threw for 507 yards today after leading an improbable game-winning drive last week.  Has anyone had a better last two Saturdays than he has?

Glad I kept reading the thread before replying because I was going to post the same thing.

The difference in the game is that PSU is a second tier team. Michigan could have beat them any number of ways. They chose to bludgeon them to death.

Who suggested otherwise?

You.

moving on. Alabama appears to have found their QB. But I’m not so sure he can run them to a National title.

For a few weeks I thought FSU was the best team besides Michigan, but a mediocre Miami gave them fits. They can be passed on.

Washington was also pretty good. I still think Washington, FSU, and Michigan are the three best teams, but it is pretty wide open.

Alabama, Georgia, and OSU are below them.

Drake Maye looks about 12 years old.

He makes pro throws though.  You never know how he'll react to pro speed, but he looks darn good.

Given the choice I think Poles is looking at Maye over Williams. If picking later I believe it's McCarthy, Nix, or Penix.

Texas A&M is firing Jimbo Fisher.

$75M guaranteed left on that contract. Something like 3.5 times the previous biggest buyout in the history of college sports contracts.

I imagine the Heisman is down to Michael Penix and Marvin Harrison Jr. at this point.

ETA - brain farted Jayden Daniels.

My hot take is if someone can do this then the opponent is not a good team and shouldn't be viewed as such

very funny to consider PSU came to know that UM was running every play and still couldn't stop it

PRAISE JEEBUS! MY LONG JIMBO NIGHTMARE IS FINALLY OVER!

Who do you think they want to replace him? I feel like better coaching gets some dang good results with the talent on that roster
