Imagine winning 99 games and then scoring 1 run in a playoff sweep

All you have to do is get in. Pretty much anyone can win. Wish the Cubs had gotten in, horsefeathers.

I can't decide whether it's more gratifying or annoying that the Marlins' ridiculous run of good luck has come to a screeching halt now that they can't screw our team with it.

Brewers 3 outs from elimination . It will be interesting to watch what they do this offseason . Burnes and Woodruff have 1 year left . Williams 2 expensive years . Counsel may leave . Adames has 1 year left as well

Milwaukee would likely be getting ready for a series against the Dodgers if the Cubs got in. This way at least we can laugh at them.

Sports Schadenfreude.  A tradition as old as sports itself.

Including 2020, 13 of the 16 Wild Card series have ended with a 2-0 sweep, 6 of them swept by the home team, 7 swept by the road team (the home team won 2 of the 3 series that went to 3 games)

It is definitely too early to make any conclusions about the new format, but it will be interesting to see whether the near 50/50 split holds over time regardless of home field advantage.

Yeah and given the weirdness around the COVID season its hard to even really use that data.  It's just an interesting factoid for now.

Just get the Dodgers and Astros out and I don't care who wins the title

May have to wait for the NLCS and ALCS, don't think Arizona or Minnesota have much of a chance in either series.

Arizona I think does, but Minny no

Yeah, to me it looks like Arizona is on a run that is probably beyond their talent.  They could continue that and beat a much better team, but I find it more likely the Dodgers stop them.

I think the Twins are getting seriously slept on. Astros rotation is real thin, and the Twins have a bunch of dudes that came up during the year and have put together real solid seasons.

2 losses and you're out after 162 games is crazy.  It should be a best out of 5 series.

I dislike the current Wild Card format. Give me the one game Wild Card.

4 losses and you're out after 162 is similarly crazy, honestly. The only way to fairly assign a champion is going Premier League style and ditching the playoffs entirely, which will never happen. Punishing the lesser playoff teams by throwing them into even more of a coin flip/more coin flips is all you can really do.

Win your division and have at least the 2nd best record over the course of a 162 game season and then you don't have to worry about it.

If we're being real, any playoffs after 162 games is stupid if your angle is fairness. But since we're light-years past the Rubicon on that issue, I don't really give a crap how long the series are. I liked the one-game playoff, honestly.

I'm not so certain the Cubs would have lost to Brewers either, to me, they looked spent.  Burns didn't look very good, Peralta began strong, got tired and, started missing spots.

I think the current format is probably the best ever.
