Given the Cubs playoff hopes are slim and none, think Ross will let the kids play?  PCA in CF, Morel at 3B?  Or, are going to see more of his Dusty Baker-ish devotion to playing the veterans who suck.

They are 1/2 game out of a playoff spot (in reality 1.5 games).  There's no way they will do anything like that until we're dead and burried

Might as well consider them a full 2 games back because the Marlins are sitting on a game that they are leading 2-1 with men on base in the 9th. They just don't know if they'll need to get the final 3 outs yet.

I wouldn't expect Ross to play the rookies regardless, though. He's the manager that's willing to sink the company by keeping his friends employed even though they are bad at their job. He's admitted it on multiple occasions that he plays struggling veterans over rookies because the veteran has earned it purely based on years of service, like he owes it to them or some horsefeathers.

PCA has been unplayably bad in his MLB time, and Morel is 8th in PA this month(and just 2 PA from 6th).  Why are we pretending that they're languishing if not for the dope that plays olds regardless of reality.

Yeah PCA needs to keep getting more 8th/9th inning pinch hit opportunities vs the teams best relievers. He's been so unplayable because of his own doing and nothing to do with how Ross has utilized him.

Correct, despite getting shielded matchups(the idea that he's only gotten PH ops against leverage relievers is absurd, look at that list of names), he's hitless with a 40% K rate, and gotten thrown out twice on the bases despite spending very little time on them.

he’s been thrown out on the bases twice and got picked off another time that the opponent screwed up. he’s also dropped a fly ball. those things have nothing to do with usage…they’re just being bad. he has stunk and should not be playing over anyone at this point.

there are 1,000 bad things to say about ross (I’ve mentioned 817 of them), this ain’t one of them.

I see lefties and some solid relievers on there. He's gotten extremely sporadic playing time, to consider him unplayable because he can't adjust to mlb pitching due to his incredibly sporadic playing time is absurd. We are talking a miniscule sample size here.

Don't see why not playing a top 100 prospect over mediocre journeymen shouldn't be considered a knock on Ross. They are not getting to the post season might as we'll get the kids some appearances that aren't late inning subs.

He was only a shade above average offensively at AAA with a 30% K rate in over 150 PA, it's not like he had proven beyond a shadow of a doubt he was ready for MLB.  If it were June there would be zero chance he was getting called up, it was only to have his defense and speed(which has proven to be a negative) as an option in a playoff chase since someone had to be there with expanded rosters.  More to that playoff chase point, it is not Ross' job to investigate if PCA can hit better with more playing time when they are pushing to make the postseason.  He hasn't been the best option to play, so he hasn't played.  They aren't going to give up on the playoffs until they're eliminated, so he probably won't play much the last series either.

it would be wild if it came down to the marlins needing to close out monday's game to make it. imagine waiting all day for a half inning that could be over either way in 2 minutes.

there is not a manager on earth that would (or should) give up on the season at this point.

can the people that were saying I was being ridiculous like two weeks ago at least acknowledge that I wasn’t being this absurd?

For me the Cubs are 1 game out , I am counting the suspended game as a Marlins win . I don’t think it’s impossible that the Pirates take 2 of 3 this weekend but the Cubs aren’t sweeping the Brewers . They can’t beat anybody right now .

Looking at payrolls the Cubs will have less than 70 million to work with next offseason due to dead money , options that will get pick by players , buyouts and arbitration elegible players .

Considering all their needs they will need to make several trades IMO to be a playoff team next year .

Needs

1 impact SP

2 impact bats

3,relievers

I personally like Kapler .
Would fire Ross for him but in reality Ross job is safe . Hoyer seems to love him for whatever reason

Dbacks playing the Astros. Technically they haven’t clinched either. It’s not likely, but they could get swept 😅
