I just don’t get it. What did you see with Cuas that told you he needed to keep pitching?  I can’t stand David Ross the tactician

Well, we have 6 outs in Colorado to make up for this Cuas blow up that has been coming for a while now. If we can knock Cuas out of the circle of trust he never belonged in and all we have to do is scrape together 2 runs in Coors....it could be worse.

Honestly though, and this is probably one of those things that we think only happen to our teams but actually happens everywhere, but.....this team horsefeathers hates putting a game away. You're in Coors, and you know this pen is falling apart, 3 runs isn't going to cut it.

that’s as much on hoyer as ross. the bullpen is full of guys that have thrown more (and higher leverage) innings than they ever have before and this pud sits on his hands and doesn’t fortify the pen at all.

Ross has no strategic acumen at all in managing the bullpen. He’ll just leave in mediocre veterans and then say oh well that’s baseball when they blow it.  He will cost the Cubs mightily in the playoffs

Very true, but you can also help yourself by recognizing when a guy just doesn't have it and get him out of the game BEFORE it gets away.  We saw that coming a mile away with the way he was pitching.

It’s Cuas that drives me nuts. He has some good movement on his pitches but he’s being trusted in these situations and Ross is giving him so much rope like he’s Mariano Rivera or something. How does he not see why we see?

I get it the pen is not good right now but how can you watch the 3 at bats before the game is blown and think that Cuas is the best option there? It just doesn’t make sense

He already cost them once in 2020, thought maybe he’d grow into it

When Cuas was getting bombed, Ross didn't make a move.  If he brings in Smyly one hitter sooner maybe we still have the lead.

I just don't think he has options and is desperately trying to find a couple more reliable pieces now that we have somewhat of a head start on a playoff spot. I'm more made at Hoyer than Ross, though in his defense it didn't really seem like anyone picked up a huge amount of help, so maybe it just wasn't out there.
