weird to say given he immediately gave up 3 hrs, but feels like the cubs should have prob done more against that stiff/not allowed him to go 5+ innings.

I had to go all the way to MLB.com to find out the Cubs won! They won again!

Tbf I should have used context clues when 83’s Wesneski in the 8th post didn’t have a follow up

Cubs > Bears for me, but it was nice just kinda casually following the cubs game in the background while I scrolled through the 12:00 games. Feel like I avoided a bunch of unnecessary stress. Good win, go use the time in Colorado to heat up the bats (but hopefully not ruin wicks, etc)

Don’t like 1-3 against dbacks, but it was a 4-3 week. If they can do 4-2 the next 2 weeks they should be fine. 9 against bad teams and the 3 against the dbacks, they won’t face Gallen or Kelly.

Hearing pat on the tv broadcast is a joy. Just make Pat/JD/Ron a three man booth for TV and Radio imo.

This is going to be controversial but I don’t like Pat on TV, elite radio guy but always feels off when he’s doing tv. Perhaps it’s just because I’m so used to hearing him on the radio

I totally get what you are saying.  For better or worse, he sounds like a radio guy doing TV.  I don't know if that is because that's what he is, or if he only sounds like that to me because my brain has been trained to associate his voice with the radio.

If we can take care of business in Colorado our opponents have some interesting series ahead.

Marlins (2.5 GA) have a 4 game series in Milwaukee (3 GB). Winning games will allow us gain on one of them and we are guaranteed to gain on one of them on Thursday when we’re off.

Phillies (2 GB) host the Braves (umm 17 GB) for 3. Tough matchup for the Phillies, good for the Cubs attempting to catch them for WC1

Other relevant series are the DBacks (2 GB) playing in NY against the Mets for 4 games, Giants (3.5 GB) hosting the Guardians for 3, and Reds (3.5 GB) traveling to Detroit for a 3 game series (starting Tuesday)

That lineup tells me they really like Morel v. Pfaadt and want to be able to yank him for Tauchman against RHRP.  Gomes over Candelario is a little silly but Candelario hasn't been hot and it balances handedness for the bullpen I guess.

I think they like Morel leading off because he'll see more first pitch fastballs and more fastballs generally, and Morel can't hit anything not a fastball because his brain only works on "super excited" speed, which includes running through a glass door and injuring himself.  Hard not to like the guy and his enthusiasm though though.

Yeah, we crapped the bed against the D-Backs.  Gallen has been good most of the year but had scuffled pretty badly the 3 games previous to the one against us and their bullpen had been pretty bad all year, and we can't even scratch out a run.

We just needed 2 runs to win each of those games Friday and Saturday and could not do it.  Struggled against a bad pitcher on Thursday.  Just can't have that with the stakes this high.

I would have taken 2 of 3 vs. The Rockies a week ago but now we've put ourselves in position where you feel like we need a sweep.

If it helps, we don’t need a sweep. Nor should we expect one.

I think there are more likely explanations than they want to get him one additional first pitch fastball because they think he's a baseball playing golden retriever.

Well, I know we don't "need" one but we could darn well use one where before the D-back series I would have been just fine with 2 of 3 in Colorado.

I don’t see anything special about Pat Hughes , radio or TV. He’s fine, but I don’t think there’s really anything extraordinary about him.

Its his voice for me. Its the voice I prefer to hear when I listen to/watch a baseball game. Its probably because growing up I could only get the radio call of Cubs games, so Pat’s voice is pretty engrained as “the baseball voice”. I’d take Pat over any other announcer ive ever heard. Len Kasper and Tom Hamilton from the Guardians radio booth are the only announcers that can compete with Pat, in my opinion.
