Reds up 5-0 early

DBacks up 1-0 early too. Oh well just keep winning. Seattle is red hot though and the Reds most difficult remaining series I believe. Need them to win a couple

As mentioned on Marquee, the Cubs matched their win total from last year today, on September 4th

I checked about 2015 out of curiosity and they matched 2014’s total of 73 wins on August 25. I was surprised for a minute that it was so late considering they won 97 games and this team won’t. But then I remembered the 2015 team just destroyed the league after the ASB.

I am really happy with the way they've responded after consecutive crushing losses.

I love how locked in Seiya is right now and Steele has my CY vote. Just such an impressive season with the ERA+. I don't think it should be downplayed.

Yah, I was a little skeptical about sending Steele out for the 8th without anybody warming up in the bullpen, but it worked out. This bullpen is pretty gassed. If you've the opportunity to give the high leverage guys some extra rest right now you absolutely want to do it. This was fortunate.

I think your concerns are warranted. in this respect  - I have no issue with Steele coming out to pitch the 8th.  I have a huge concern with no one warming up at the start of the inning.   The DP  was awesome, Steele is  a DAWG!  but we've seen scenarios a few times this year in similar circumstances where we were not so fortunate and not having someone warming  to the laymen like me....seemed to be a no brainer.  But, what do I know?

The theory that a pitcher should not pitch 30 innings past what he pitched the previous year is a Tom Verducci theory.  I think Tom Verducci is a good baseball guy,  But I can tell you his theory is NOT universally agreed upon.  That's a whole other discussion.  But not having someone warning is a legit issue for debate and IMHO Rossi should have had someone warming.

47-40 at the break, 50-25 after. A couple weeks later they were 52-47 before finishing the year 45-18.

DBacks and Reds both finish off their wins.  The Cubs playoff cushion (and cushion for WC2) remains at 3, but now instead of a 4 way tie, the Marlins are 3.5 back and the Giants 4 back.

Also Phillies are up 6-1 so looks like their cushion over us will remain at 2.5 games.

Finally, the Brewers are up 2-0 in Pittsburgh.

It's looking like the only ground we'll gain today is on the team we played and the team that was idle.  Much better than losing though and losing ground on all those teams.

Finally, FG playoff odds for the Cubs are now 91.8% based on season-to-date stats and 83.6% based on FG projections.

What up with the Padres,  all that talent and can't win..

Currently losing to Phillies

Brewers losing to Pirates late

They did just sweep the Giants for us.

Yeah, Brewers 2 outs away from going down and cutting the division lead down to 2.5 games for the first time in awhile.

In other games Giolito pitched for the Guardians today and gave up 9 runs in 3 IP with the Guardians trailing the twins 18-3 currently.  That could have been us!

I know it shouldn't matter that much, but man would I feel so much better about things if they had closed out the 2nd game and taken 3 of 4 from Cincy.

The two losses to the Reds over the weekend felt like they should have devastated me, but not really. And now we have a 2 game winning streak. This team just continues to consistently win games. I'd sure love a big 6-7 game winning streak this week, but if not, I am confident they will keep grinding out the series wins.

Should have won all 4. No excuses!

I'm glad that the Cubs have figured out what that piece of wood they're carrying to the plate should be used for!  Hit the ball and the pitching woes are a lot less!

It took a lot of runs to win again, but if that's what it takes, DO IT!

Swanson and Morel came up big even!  But I wish David would give Leiter a week or two off.  His ball is dead and right down the middle.
