I wasn't necessarily clamoring to pull Taillon this time, but 2nd straight game Ross is pulling his starter mid inning after giving up 4 runs in the inning.

If we drop this, 7-7 since the Mets series and 4-4 since we started playing very bad teams that are out of the race.  I guess it happens in baseball, but horsefeathers this is so annoying.

Ross lets them pitch to failure

That’s not on Ross. He got 2 out and was one batter away from getting out of it. I didn’t want to see Merryweather either. Tallion earned the chance to get out of it.

In hindsight, that’s the most important AB of the game and man would it be nice to have a lefty in the pen ready to go for that moment.

going into it, he’d been pretty dominant through 5 and had done the job on the 2 and 3 hitters.

After the 2nd hit when it was clear he was done was the time to pull him. You have to get someone up in the pen the third time through the order with most of the guys on the Cubs staff. It should be a standing order.

Sure, if they had a good lefty I can see the move. But as you said it is hindsight. Has Ross put in Merryweather and he gave up the slam the comment wouks have been Ross shouldn’t have taken Taillion out.

I don't have an issue leaving him in there.  I do have an issue with him throwing a meatball to a power hitting lefty instead of walking him and living to fight another day against a  righty.

opinions differ.

There are not too many worse feelings in baseball than loading the bases with 0 outs, getting the next 2 hitters out without allowing a run, then getting 2 strikes on the next hitter before giving up a grand slam.

Patrick Wisdom has over a .900 OPS since returning from injury in July. Morel is something in the realm of 5 for his last 50. I think it's probably good on Ross for giving him a spot start on getaway day and give Morel a day off.

Good on you for noticing that, a lesser individual would probably look at Wisdom's batting average and say something ignorant.

Yeah he had a great game! A lesser individual would have noticed that Wisdom was 10 out of his last 47 since coming back up. You are just as smart as Ross!!

The starting rotation is a problem and I truly don't think the Cubs are going to be able to withstand it.

Hendricks was supposed to be the 5th starter and he is basically being relied on as the team's 2nd best remaining starter behind Steele.  Assad has been very good over a short period of time, but can he sustain that?  After those 3 pitchers, everything else is a dumpster fire.

The offense has to be extremely good to make up for the lack of pitching, and they haven't been that for awhile now.

Would have meant more had you suggested they should take Tallion out before the homer. Just feels result bias to me. And I think you would have posted the opposite had Merryweather came in and given up the homer. That would have been Ross’ fault as well.

Me no likey Rucker. Hopefully he can put a 0 up

I am not a fan either. Hope he proves us both wrong.

Cubs have had the lead in 13 straight games.  They are 7-5 so far in those games.  Even the games we've won we've let the opponent back into the game 5 times.  The only game we've had an easy win during this stretch is the 6-2 win over Toronto

It's funny, going into this season the expectations were that the pitching would be solid and the offense a bit of a dumpster fire. It has been the opposite.

Tallion has been decent lately as well. But I agree, the rotation is a problem.
