Get the win, get out of Detroit in good shape. Can Jameson Taillon do that?

Well, I mean, he's probably not going to score any runs for the Cubs, so...

Good to see Wisdom starting. Great player. Great person. Ross is such a good manager. Great decision maker. Great person.

This about the only time I'm in support of starting Wisdom. Morel definitely needs some time off, he has been absolutely awful for a while now.

Patrick Wisdom has over a .900 OPS since returning from injury in July. Morel is something in the realm of 5 for his last 50. I think it's probably good on Ross for giving him a spot start on getaway day and give Morel a day off.

Good on you for noticing that, a lesser individual would probably look at Wisdom's batting average and say something ignorant.

I don't want to make a separate thread for this, but with Seiya up to a .762 OPS, 107 wRC+ and currently at 1.6 fWAR on pace for 2 fWAR, where would he need to finish for you to consider his season a success? If he ended at like .775 OPS, I think I'd be fairly content with that. It's not the .830 OPS 25HR guy I hoped he'd be this year, but it would be decent.

For me, it'd be less about the overall line and more about making the adjustments necessary to get the best version of Suzuki.  We know he's got a great eye, and he's essentially mirrored last year's line (granted the wRC+ is lower but that's due to league data).

2022: .262/.336/.433  24.7% K%, 9.4% BB%, .171 ISO

2023: .263/.335/.427 23.9% K%, 9.8$ BB%, 164 ISO

What's exciting is his more attacking and aggressive nature recently.  If he can use his discerning eye in tough counts, but use his considerable ability to hit the baseball (evidenced by his batted ball data) to begin to crush mistake pitches early in the counts and become the best version of Seiya for August and September, I'll consider that a success because that'll really set him up for success next year to not just be a good player, but potentially a borderline very good player.  The best version of Suzuki entering the playoffs, as well, would be a huge gain for the Cubs lineup.

This does tie into my opinion that 2023 has shown, at this point, Cubs *fans* are now the only part of the org who can’t handle the heat of a little competition for a professional sports franchise. No wonder it was so easy for The Man to spring two rebuilds into the last decade!

i wish there was a reaction button for 'wtf are you on about now tom?'

Game is in a rain delay, expected to start at 12:45 ct

Did the cubs 3 hitters swing at every first pitch, I turned it on at 1249 and the Tigers are hitting already 😅

4/4. The continued bold decision to hit our second best hitter 7th pays off.

4/5 after Wisdom weakly strikes out on a ball in the dirt.

Wisdom would probably 200/280/520 his way to an 800 OPS with consistent ABs, but I just don’t see how someone with his contact issues can be expected to give you anything in PH spots and one start a week.

Still very encouraging given what we know of skubal going into it and the way he handled the first. Of course, Jameson did not have an encouraging first.

I'm quite pleased with the 2nd.
