Those are based on projections sourced by current 2023 performance, rather than preseason projections. Based on those, the Cubs are currently favorites for the division.

I'm assuming the remaining SOS is also based on 2023 performance rather than W-L record right?  Because Tankathon also tracks remaining SOS but bases it purely on W-L record and they show that the Cubs have the 19th hardest remaining SOS at .494 and 3 NL teams having easier remaining SOS (Atlanta at .490, Cincinnati at .489 and Milwaukee at .485)

between fields, bedard, and the cubs current situation, chicago sports have gotten pretty interesting/exciting again

Don't forget the crumbling of the White Sox dynasty that netted 2 playoff wins

What he said.

Correct. Preseason projections had the Cubs as a borderline .500 team, which is why their playoff odds based on those projections is a bit more bearish (but still a real chance).  Based on their current performance, the Cubs are the best team in the division, so the chances they make up 3 games on the Reds and Brewers right now is better than 50/50.

That's my favorite thing about this. There was so much talk about how their dynasty was going to be better than the Cubs and they were going to run Chicago. Then absolutely none of it happened and I laughed and I laughed.

Hey, they definitely won an extremely weak division in 2021 (and were thus throttled by the Astros in the playoffs).

Them doing the Fresh Prince post will live forever.

My favorite part of their mini-run is when they hung Eloy's jersey (signed by the team) and batting gloves up in the dugout like he had died or something after one of his many injuries.

i wonder if len has any regrets. i mean, he probably doesn't, because he's an adult who was just making a career decision, but still. he probably thought some really fun times were ahead

I still think that had more to do with PTR than Len wanting to join the White Sox.

The Reds are showing their soft underbelly, the Cubs need to take advantage against yet another struggling starter.

The Cubs were emasculated when the Reds came to Wrigley back on Memorial Weekend.  It would be nice to return the favor with one more decisive win tonight.

Great. Thank you.

Have I mentioned that this should be a day game?

Because this should be a day game

Do the Cubs even play day games anymore? I kind of miss the nostalgia of it.

3 in a row starting tomorrow.

The Nationals are also not playing too bad lately. They swept the Giants, took 2 of 3 from the Rockies, lost 3 of 4 to the Mets and took 2 of 3 from the Brewers. That's 8-5 over their last 13. The Reds might have their hands full.

I very much enjoyed watching the Cubs not just beat the Reds the last 2 nights, but humiliate them.  They went BP on their pitching staff and exposed their defense.  Pretty sure they broke Nick Senzel's brain.  Inserted all sorts of doubt into their heads.

There still seems to be the narrative that the Cubs play mostly day games, but I'd be curious to see how they compare to the rest of the league.  I'm sure they still play the most, but I bet it isn't by a large margin anymore.

It's probably somewhere between a decent and healthy margin. They don't play any more weekday day games than anyone else does, but exclusively day games on Fridays and weekends (outside national games) probably bumps you up a few notches.

42 of the Cubs 81 home dates are day games. Other teams have around 30 day games for their home dates.

Cubs have 21 games remaining with really bad teams. (Det-3, Sox-2, pirates-7, KC-3, Rockies-6) and really only 6 with a team clearly better than they are, the Braves. And 3 of those will probably be after the Braves clinch. Other than that they are playing teams at their level. I don’t consider the Jays much better than the Cubs. And now they will be without Bichette. Cubs are 6-0 against the Pirates, so they need to continue to dominate them. Love to see 3-1 the remainder of the homestand, but with a win tonight I would even be ok with just taking 1 from the Braves. If they could go 6-4 the next 10 this sets up very nice for them. Even 5-5 would be ok, if one of the wins was tonight.
