The whole concept of the winter meetings seems like a relic of the past anyway, as if every GM isn't immediately accessible to every other GM at any time regardless of where they are physically located.  It sounds more like an excuse for everyone to get together and drink.

That's still how a lot of deals get done.

Last year proved horsefeathers can get done at the meetings. But Judge and Scherzer signed early. Same with Turner and Bogaerts. Unfortunately one player is holding up everything this year.

Scherzer did sign 12/1. But Bogaerts and Turner were more like 12/8 and Judge was closer to Christmas. I think Ohtani will sign in the next 3 days.

I know it's one of those things that will entirely bite me in the ass, but if Ohtani is that worried about winning, going to the 3rd or 4th best team in a difficult division, one of which has been dominated by the Dodgers, regardless of whatever plan they have, would seem to be a strange choice and I have a hard time seeing him ending up there.

Well if this is going to bite you in the ass it will do the same to me. I don’t see how Ohtani can say he wants to win and sign with the Giants.. There will always be the Dodgers and you still have d-backs and even the Padres to deal with.

Judge, Turner and Bogaerts signings were all reported during the meetings last year. Sorry, Verlander was the one who signed last year at the meetings, not Scherzer.

Just pulled up the article about Judge. He signed on 12/20. Bogaerts and Turner were announced during the winter meetings. Scherzer was early. I think there is still a decent chance Ohtani announces his decision in the next few days. He really isn’t taking that much time. No more than the guys last year, if he signs in the next few days. And ahead of Judge.

A really good thing to point out. Opinions here are all over the place because no one really knows what he's thinking. This is a pretty insane free agent situation. I don't think he's going back to the Angels at all, but I guess we can't discount anything.

It’s a good excuse though.

I get the desire to sign Ohtani, but we can't leave Carter Hawkins at the Winter Meetings by himself for too long.  Who knows what trouble he'll get himself into?

I sincerely hope he's wearing rubber duckie water wingies and drinking martinis in the hotel hot tub while belting out Don't Stop Believing by Journey before 4pm because Papa Hoyer isn't there.

He looks absolutely exhausted on Marquee right now.

Baseball seems to be the only sport in the world where fans say “there is always one player that holds up free agency” in December, when Baseball doesn’t officially come back until February. Tbf, Shohei Ohtani isn’t actually holding up anything.

Looks like Nightendale eliminated the Cubs from the Ohtani talk . He said they have no shot . I honestly don’t know if I should feel good he said that

Did he tweet it? Or was it an interview? I don't see anything on his twitter.Twitter. I'd love to see the full quote.
