I will continue to go with "no one knows s***" but Ohtani and his reps. That's it.

We %100 know Jed is interested, they got a meeting with him the first time around and they will get another one.

Might get him, might not.

Starting to get a tad bit hope back.

Me too. Earlier I was convinced they were out. Now I am not sure. As we all seem to agree, they probably won’t get him, but they might not be out. And actually maybe putting Morel in a Rays offer is a sign the DH position will not be available.

If Roberts actually hosed them here I will never stop laughing at him even if they win the next 3 world series (he did not and they will not)

I know what Ohtani said, but I give this less than a 1% chance of mattering. If Ohtani thinks the Dodgers are where he wants to be, this comment from Dave Roberts isn’t going to change his mind.

Why does it have to be a "26th man"? You're creating false limitations. It's a roster spot. What the Cubs do with that spot is up to them. It doesn't have to be a bum.

You do you, Stratos. I'm going to just leave if at "I couldn't disagree more"

Because it's the 27th man.  It's one roster spot added.

damn bruce out here looking like joe maddon's grandad

Not sure what to think.  Not inclined to believe Cubs/Marquee sources.  They have every reason to 1. not leak anything and 2. keep Cubs fans thinking they're making a serious push of they aren't.

I think you gotta put at least the Dodgers and Jays above the Cubs at this point either way.

this would be the best example of boob boobing ever if it happens.

This has potential to be Bob's version of the Bowden "Ralph" debacle

I’m really flabbergasted that Counsell hasn’t even met with Ohtani. I know, I know “he’s keeping it discreet” horsefeathers. He’d no comment it if that were the case.  If he answered that he actually hasn’t met with him how the hell did we get eliminated so early.
This organization was embarrassing. Tom and Theo came in. We win. And now we’re back to being an embarrassment.

Ohtani is a peculiar fellow with some very strong demands. It sounds like we were willing to meet them. We've even kept the meeting under wraps.

I don't see why this should embarrass the Cubs or their fans.

Agreed. I will be more disappointed if he went to Toronto, however. But still not mad or embarrassed by the FO effort. To me if he goes to LA it was his preferred choice from the very beginning and no one blew him away with either a crazy offer or an amazing sell job on their team and city. If it is Roronto they out pitched the Cubs. But that is still not a reason to be embarrassed by the Cubs effort. .

IMO, Ohtani either returning to the Angels or going to the Dodgers.

I think he likes it out there and as has been reported, he likes to keep his routine and stay out of the light.

No, not this one succinct event. It’s the selling of Darvish for high schoolers. It’s the sitting out on major contracts time and time again. And I’m sorry, but if Jed Hoyer couldn’t sell this organization enough to even get a meeting that involved our manger he failed miserably at his job. Again.

The man needs to run the guardians or the rays. He’s simply not built to lead a big market team. In my opinion.

He exactly what Ricketts wants.

As long as he puts a somewhat competitive team on the field within the budget he given, his job is safe.

I agree with Jed being exactly what Ricketts wants. But I don’t feel the Cubs have anything to be embarrassed of on this attempt to sign Ohtani.

How? I think Jed is good at building a farm. I don’t think he’s proven very capable of building a major league team around that. He seems to (I’m assuming it’s him. Could be Tom too. Could be both) have a dislike for the mega deals. Which is fine. There’s risk with them. I get that. But the problem is we’re a big market team. We’re supposed to be the one of the teams that take on the mega deals. The rules are skewed for competitive balance purposes so big market teams can act like big market teams.

I'm sorry, but I want more than Dansby Swanson. Jed is Theo without the balls.

If we came in second on Ohtani last time and six years later are eliminated before we can even get a meeting that involves our major league manager that’s embarrassing, and someone failed miserably along the way.

We don’t know that we didn’t get a meeting though. Our brass in Nashville played coy on it and the Dodgers backtracked heavily after Robert’s said they had a meeting.

Maybe we have had a meeting and nobody knows. Maybe we haven’t and we are meeting with him soon. Who knows?
