Forced?

Ok, which one of you knuckle-chuckles held a gun to CubinNY head and forced him to watch a good football player play football?

Seems a bit off considering this same guy probably volunteered to watch a miserable baseball team for decades.

It's why i deleted the post. I re-read and I was a bit harsh.

CubinNY, I apologize.

Who is the last QB to come in his rookie season and lead his team to a winning season? How many times has that happened? I guess I should clarify that to a top QB since they are going to a team that sucked the year before. Not a Mac Jones type that landed on a better team.

Bryce Young may end up being a great NFL QB but to expect that right out of the gate is fool's gold.

Yes, I don't think Carolina will have a winning record this year, but I also don't think they will be a top 5 in the draft either.

You have to live in Alabama to really get an understanding. Every place you go to on a Saturday is Auburn or Alabama depending on what time each team is playing. It's hard to convey the level of ridiculousness.

There are two questions everyone asks here the first time they meet you and both answers will determine if the person will have anything to do with you

1. What church do you go to? If you answer wrong to that one it may be okay to continue the conversation

2. Who do you "pull for" (that's how they talk down here)? If you answer wrong to this question the conversation is over.

I get it. That is why I deleted my original post and I would like to extend an apologizy for being cavalier.

Dan Marino? Gotta be someone more recent though

Why wouldn't a Mac Jones scenario not count?  The Patriots went 7-9 the year before they drafted Mac Jones, the Panthers went 7-10 last year.  Doesn't seem that crazy that getting a solid year out of Young over the crap they had at QB last year would result in 2 more wins, especially in a division where everyone pretty much sucks.

If you don't count Mac, looks like it may have been the triumvirate in 2012.  In 2011, the Seahawks were 7-9, the Commanders were 5-11, and the Colts were 2-14.

In 2012, The Seahawks were 11-5 with Russell Wilson, the Commanders were 10-6 with RGIII, and the Colts were 11-5 with Andrew Luck.

Edit:  I looked specifically for rookie QB's who had made the playoffs, there may have been a couple winning season/not making the playoffs that I missed.

Technically the Cowboys with Dak Prescott would fit too.  4-12 in 2015, 13-3 in 2016.  I initially passed them over because they had Romo, but he only played 4 games in 2015 and 0 starts in 2016.

This is just not near the way NFL works in my mind and it's consistently a trap. Every single season is really it's own beast for most teams, unless they have an elite QB. Half of NFL games are coin flips that are often just determined by a couple fluky plays. They won 7 games last year and I wouldn't draw much from that regarding the 2023 outlook. Historically rookie QB's rarely hit the ground running. Overall, the roster is mediocre AF and it's asking a lot of a rookie to make much with it.

LOL, I saw some dude compare Fields to JaMarcus Russell. Fields hasn't eaten his way off an NFL roster.

In fact, polar opposites, Fields is a health nut.

Tua, but he started only 9 games.

Purdy did well.

Lamar Jackson was 6-1 in starts. Carolina might be most like Baltimore in that the Panthers will rely on D.

I was agreeing with you, not chastising you. LOL. I was agreeing that it's a bit silly to express so much pain in watching a team win week after week, while also being a staunch fan of the Loveable Losers.

I agree but I also think that applies to to this season too.

People act like you can predict NFL win totals with way too much precision.  A lot of NFL games end up being coin flips that can turn on a single play, and 17 games is not a large sample.  Bad teams can and do win 10+ games due to luck (hi 2022 Minnesota vikings) and good teams can have seasons derailed with injury runs
