And is literally anyone surprised by that? I like the risk on Bellinger and Mancini but don’t understand pursuing Hosmer.

Surely just a stopgap until Mervis is deemed ready right? Not sure what service time looks like these days

Service time is still 15-ish days down to get a seventh year of control.

And if the Cubs are playing Super Two shenanigans, which adds another 4-6 weeks to ensure a player doesn’t qualify, they can go straight to hell.

Doing what they have to do to compete as a mid market team against major markets like San Diego

Sadly if there's an opportunity to do something shitty, the Cubs will shamelessly do it.

I'm sure the service time doesn't hurt, but I think the primary motivation is that Mervis was a non-prospect 12 months ago, so they went with strength in numbers for 1B & DH between Hosmer/Mancini/Mervis.  Plus Hosmer signed before Mancini so they wanted to bank at least one option even if it was a mediocre one.

good thing alzolay pitched two meaningless innings in a loss yesterday so we could extend the drew smyly experience tonight. stunning how bad ross is at knowing when to pull pitchers.
