Meant given Poles actions it appears getting to the QB is not a priority hence, the question about his knowledge of the defensive scheme.

I was just saying it's weird what he's doing and I don't agree with it

Got it,  I'm with you, sure improve the linebackers and secondary but, to just pass on the DL like he has is akin to his leaving Fields out to dry last season.

im sure it's been asked but what do we think we're getting from Claypool this year?

I think it'll be pretty close to what he's always done when not being traded midseason....if he's healthy. 55-65 catches, 700-800 yards, 4-6 TDs. I don't see him blowing up more than that, unless Mooney has to miss a bunch of time in season and teams really gear up to stop DJ.

If he shows big play ability he did as a rookie and versatility to be more than just a jump ball downfield guy, I think he gets the payday he wants, but maybe not from the Bears.

I’ve been busy in life, so I haven’t been able to follow it closely out here, not much coverage. But what’s going on with Naperville? Poor old McCasky got hood winked by Churchill downs or lame attempt to not try and pay taxes?

Rich people would never try and do that!

I think Poles wants some of those available DE's, but they are probably holding out for a team that gives them a better chance at playoffs. There was talk today that they are interested in bringing Quinn back, but he's upset about being traded in the first place. Well, we did trade him to a team that had a chance to win the Super Bowl, so he shouldn't be that bitter.

A combination of Quinn and Yannick (I'm not even going to try to guess how his last name is spelled) seems like a nice complement to all of the other moves made to put a respectable defense on the field. Poles may just have to wait it out until these guys realize that they cost more than any of the playoff hopefuls can afford to pay.

Adding those two guys (or Clark or the like) gives the Bears a chance of being a playoff team, IMO. I'm also wondering if Poles is holding out for teams that still want to add veteran help at other positions where it frees up a younger DE via trade. Basically, I'm trusting that the DE room is not complete. If it is, it's going to be very tough once again for the secondary.

Haven’t really thought of the Bears as a possible destination for Cook and I think we’re set with our RBs but it looks like multiple betting sites have the Bears as the favorites to sign him if released.  Not sure I’m buying it but who knows.

Another DE off the board.  Haven't really heard much about Frank Clark/Bears so whatever, but Bears fans are freaking out on twitter of course lol

Frank Clark wasn't of any interest to me. He's basically like an NBA 3&D guy at this point. Ease him along all season and let him loose in the playoffs. Bears aren't at that point and I'm not really sure how much he has left anyway.

Dalvin Cook to Miami seems like a foregone conclusion from what I've heard.

As for DE, if the Vikings are truly shopping Danielle Hunter, I hope the Bears don't let the division thing deter them from throwing their name in the hat. The Vikings have traded in the division a few times the last couple years. Traded for Hockenson at the deadline and traded on draft day to help the Lions and Packers take WRs (Williams and Watson) last year. I think the compensation would be similar to the Roquan trade (2nd and 5th). He is older than Roquan, but DE is a more premium position and Hunter needs a long term deal after this year like Smith last year.

Hunter has had double digit sacks 3 of 4 years, and the year he didnt (2021) he had 6 sacks in 7 games, so he was clearly on his way then as well. Bears obviously have the money to pay him long-term. They have the multiple 1s next year, potentially an extra 3rd if Cunningham gets a GM job next year. Definitely a gamble I'd take with a 2nd, not a 1st rounder though.

The continued media coverage of the Bears' bass ackwards approach in courting other Chicago suburbs makes it astonishingly clear just how stupid they are.

Rather than announce an intention to leave Soldier Field and open up a potential bidding war between municipalities across the country prior to purchasing or committing to a new lease, they immediately jumped on the Arlington property, purchased it for nearly $200m, started demolition, and then decided they wanted to start up a bidding war because they didn't secure preferential tax treatment prior to the purchase.

I get that they could conceivably develop, divide, and sell off the Arlington property at a profit, but that would require a serious long term commitment of cash flow to non-football operations, and it also would require the Bears to seek additional financing for the purchase and development of a different parcel (or the redevelopment of Soldier Field) when the public funding of stadium construction can be political suicide.  It's not like the McCaskeys are independently wealthy and have bags full of money they could throw around or extensive collateral they could put up for secured financing.

The only theory that makes sense to how all of this happened is the Amazon purchasing Arlington rumors had legs, which caused the Bears to panic and accelerate their timeline for purchasing Arlington, rather than taking the time to exercise due diligence, build local political support, and secure commitments for preferential tax treatment prior to purchase.

In other words, they pulled a Trubisky.

I get that by most accounts they aren’t Waltons, but they’ve owned an NFL franchise free and clear for a hundred years. They’ve made hundreds of millions in profits every year for decades now. They aren’t flashy like Jerry, or from the world of finance like the Ricketts or Tepper. But they’re like the grandma who dies and then somehow has $2 million in assets to send on to the 4H club. You can’t make that much profit year in and year out seemingly without making a series of terribly risky business decisions without having a ton of liquid assets.

they did just up and buy a huge property without blinking, and they probably could 10 more times.

what they should do is have the biggest high school stadiums take turns hosting games, turn it into a reality show competition and at the end that’s how they determine the next suburban home.

I don't know what to believe anymore. About a week ago I read an article about how Claypool was in a much better place and the staff expected big things from him this year.

He’s not practicing, so it’s obviously true. Football people are never happy with football players not playing football. Doesn’t really mean much until maybe training camp.

I'm glad to see the NFL bring back the supplemental draft in the year the Bears get the 1st pick. Usually, it's a non-story but with Wright (WR) out of Purdue sitting there, it's an important development.

By making a first round pick in the supplemental draft, I think they have to give up the same pick in the first round of the 2024 draft. Everything I've read points to that, so I'm not sure why any team would want to make a supplemental pick.

Yeah basically teams will decline to draft anyone until they get to a round that they feel comfortable giving up their pick in. The Bears will just have 1st choice in each round. So if teams peg him as a 5th round pick, the Bears can grab him with the first pick in that round, but it’s possible a team in the 4th round decides it’s worth the risk and grabs him
