Did Fields insult Poles' mother?

No but Bears fans demanded a rebuild and a stark change from Pace without realizing what that might mean.

You’re right I did not think a rebuild included sabotaging last years 1st round QB

I mean literally this was always a risk. It wasn't his guy.

Overinvesting in defense while ignoring the offensive line isn't a "stark change." It's the exact same thing.

Oversimplification, but also, the stark difference was actually pointless surface level stuff mostly, so the point still plays.

If you don’t believe in him trade him while he still has value. If you keep him give him a chance to succeed

On one hand I get it, but on the other hand, counting on the draft to support Fields wouldn't have been smart.

Welcome to 3-4 weeks in the past.

Exactly. Draft defense (or really BPA), pick up a couple offensive FAs, see where you’re at next year when you have more space and better draft capital.

Oh they absolutely should have done more in FA, but... Poles has other plans.

Wait and see.

Jones is a terrible pick, IMO. I thought he would have been a better option as the 2nd WR taken for the Bears.

My ideal draft so far ..

Booth from Clem

Moore from WMU

Raimann from CMU

Guarantees in life are death, taxes, and Chiefs going for speed. Chiefs have drafted guys with a top 5 40-yard dash at the combine in all but 2 years since 2015, and one of those years they didn't Tyreke Hill ran 4.29 at his pro day because he wasn't invited to the combine.

I think this turned out to influence the Velus Jones pick. 4th best 40. I think they really wanted Tyquan Thornton, but the Patriots grabbed him at 50. Jones was the only other WR with top 5 speed, the others were all CBs, which they obviously took with Gordon. With a huge gap in picks, they didn't want to miss out on the last huge speed guy at WR, so they reached fit a guy that probably would have at least made them sweat, if he even made it there.

I was shocked they didn't take a WR with one of the 2nd round picks. But then to skip out on Bernhard Raimann at 71 when he was projected as an early 2nd rounder was even more of a head scratcher. Maybe there was a legit reason he fell as far as he did, but I think I would have liked to see a lineman over such a reach at WR at that point. I wonder if they thought that one of the big name WR's would still be there at 71. I can't help but think that they will end up signing one of the free agent WR's still available at this point, because I just don't think you can go into this season with Pringle as your #2. I'm resigned to the fact this is pretty much a rebuild year as there was absolutely no way to improve enough via draft and free agency to be competitive, so I guess I'll just sit back and watch it all unfold. Next offseason we should have plenty to be excited about.

This is a very cynical front office. Basically treating Fields as a free option. If he turns out okay, fine, but he has to do it on his own, they won’t lift a finger to help him. Just fill out the roster the way they like and give them a shot at drafting a QB next year.

Yep, some definite self preservation going on it feels like.

It drives me crazy. Sure, they didn't draft Fields, but they were hired (presumably) with the idea they could build a team with him. Sure, if Fields fails after real investment and planning for the guys around him, you couldn't blame Poles. But as it is, Fields failure would be impossible to separate Pokes from. In a way, Poles has staked his career in Chicago to Fields success by NOT supporting him.
