JSU games are rarely even televised. Wow.

Seems to me like I saw them on TV a bunch last season. Maybe I'm dreaming that.

I think you are. They've been featured on TV commercials because of Deion doing Geico with Saban now, but SWAC games are rarely televised.

That's about to change. If Deion (and other SWAC schools) continue to get top commits, that'll force stations to televise them.

There are rumors flying that he's taking his bag to get a few other top guys, too, so this should be interesting.

Yeah, this was always the thought with JSU hiring him. I don't know if the end game is Deion getting a Power 5 job or if it's the SWAC to become a power conference. I'm really hoping it's the latter because it will really shake horsefeathers up if black players in the South have a legit chance for exposure at HBCUs.

JSU was on ESPN for their first 2 games against UAB and FSU(which they won). The rest of the games were on ESPN+ so you could've noticed their name regularly if you tended to watch through the app.

You’re thinking of Jacksonville State.

Jackson State is in the SWAC. They don’t have a deal with ESPN. The only HBCU football game that is regularly televised is the Celebration Bowl.

I can’t see SWAC ever becoming a power conference. They just don’t have the money. In fact, it was a big deal this year when Jackson State players had their names on the backs of their jerseys because in the SWAC they have to reuse jerseys year to year. I believe Deion paid for that out of his own pocket.

I mean, if they get all the top athletes to come to the conference, they'll get on TV (TV deals) and then they'll have money. But yeah, it's a long shot.

Unfortunately I think this is just a one time thing due to Deion’s association with Barstool. I’m struggling to envision other NIL opportunities at HBCU’s that would get the top black athletes there.

I think this kid going to JSU may be the biggest recruiting story of all time. It’s the birth of open and notorious free agency in college football.

Going forward it’ll be interesting to see how much truth was in Kiffin’s rant. How many players are going to be pissed off when a good chunk of the NIL deals they were promised fall through? I suspect the transfer portal will be out of control next year.

One of two things will happen.

Either Jackson State continues to be good and Deion jumps to another school or this season was more of a one off, Jackson State falls off and then none of these big recruits will go there again.

Plus with the transfer portal rules changing, these guys know they can just follow him to whatever other school Deion goes to.

It depends on Sanders' motivation. If his motivation is to build HBCUs into big-time programs and I'm not talking just sports, but using the money generated from sports to upgrade the universities, I hope he succeeds beyond anyone's wildest dreams. If he's big dicking it to show power schools he can recruit talent, it will be another in a long line of injustice done to these schools.

They had two games on ESPN2 this season with one being the SWAC championship in addition to the Celebration Bowl on ABC. They did have two on ESPN and two on ESPN2 last season but that can be attributed to playing in the spring due to the pandemic when no other college football was happening.

I'm thrilled to see A&M sign the #1 recruiting class but I am not going to get too excited until Jimbo translates that into an actual championship.

Yea! Arkansas finished 13th in national recruiting rankings.

Boo! This still ranks 7th in the conference.

The SEC has 12 of the top 25 teams in recruiting rankings.

Reasons the CFP is expanding No. 450,000,001 and 450,000,002 (after the $450M it's estimated to add to the leagues' coffers): Kenneth Walker has announced he's skipping the Peach Bowl and Kenny Pickett is rumored to be next. The 2 best players in an NY6 game saying 'nah, we're good' is why they're going to add more games to this thing.

Yeah bowls are pointless. People kept attacking Harbaugh for his bowl record (on top of the MSU/OSU stuff) and I just couldn't find it in me to care. I don't think I've ever watched an entire Michigan bowl game in a decade. Seems like a pointless exhibition to me. Most teams play their big rivalry game the last week of the season so its sort of a climax to the season. But instead, you take a 5 week break before watching your team play one more game in a neutral location with nothing on the line. If they win, great. If they lose, whatever. I'm sure the players feel the same way except some of them have millions on the line.

I know I’m biased but Corral is equal or better than Pickett imo. Corral played half the season limping around on an ankle that was almost broken at the end of the Tennessee game and was out his 2nd and 3rd best WR and his TE for most all of the year, yet still took Ole Miss to 10-2. He is really, really freaking good and he IS playing in the Sugar.

I am pretty sure Schembechler used to basically say it didnt matter. As an MSU fan I tend to get into them a bit more if its a New Years bowl game but I am with you, I just dont get to excited about them. I was super excited to make the playoffs the one year but knew we were going to get our butts whooped by Alabama so the game itself didnt really get me too worked up. I will almost refuse to bet on bowl games either

I meant the best players in one specific NY6 game. (Trust me, if I'd meant any NY6 game at all there's no way I'd have rated either of those 2 as better than Kyle Hamilton, who's skipping the Fiesta for ND.) Without having seen much of either I'd probably lean to thinking Corral is better too.

I'm still watching every second of the Fiesta and enjoy/care about bowls as much as any CFB fan, but it is interesting that this is now the overwhelmingly prevailing opinion, yet if God forbid ND loses again it's going to be another year of many of those same people going 'they haven't won a major bowl since 1993, what a joke'.

Yeah I definitely misread that

This is going to be interesting

Notable updates to the CFP guidelines include:

-If a Playoff semifinalist is unable to play, the unavailable team would forfeit the game and its opponent would advance to the national championship game. The game date will not be changed.

-If both semifinalists are unable to play in either the Orange or Cotton Bowl, that semifinal would be declared "no contest." The game date will not be changed. The other semifinal winner would be declared the national champion.

If three semifinalists are unable to play, the semifinal with two unavailable teams would be declared "no contest." The unavailable team in the other semifinal would forfeit its game and its opponent would be declared the national champion. No game dates will be changed.

-If a finalist's unavailability is determined after the semifinals are played, the national championship game may be rescheduled for no later than Friday, Jan. 14.

-If a finalist is unable to play on the rescheduled date, that team will forfeit and its opponent will be declared national champion. If both teams are unable to play on the rescheduled date, the game will be declared "no contest" and the national championship will be vacated for this season.

-Teams will have the option to arrive at their bowl location a minimum of two days before their game, rather than the usual five.

All media access to coaches, staff and players will be virtual and non-essential staff will not have sideline access pre- or post-game at any CFP game.

Georgia is already having COVID problems, not sure about the other 3, but I saw that Michigan and Alabama are having their entire teams boosted this week. We could see a team win a title by default. A COVID aided Natty would sure look nice next to Michigan's half-natty in 97. Michigan fans are happy and Michigan haters can still say they haven't won an outright title since the 40s.

To be clear I'm not rooting for that outcome, that would really suck.
