Just FYI, the article headline buries the lede for anyone who didn't click through.

So Nagy already has been fired and hes gonna coach why? Just cuz it's a short week? That's not a good enough reason.

I think it's weird, but there's precedent for stuff like that happening, sorta.

Hendry running the 2011 draft. Cutler said Lovie had informed the team he had been fired before his final game. I'm sure there are many others.

precedent doesn't make it not stupid

I go back to Hatley running the draft when everybody knew he was gone the next week. It's dumb.

oh it definitely is

Well I picked a bad day to be away from all news/internet/text messages. So is Nagy going to be like George Costanza showing up to a job he is already fired from basically?

This whole organization is crap.

i don't know if it'll be this week or not, but it'll happen in season at least partially due to the new interviewing window

Damn, I guess there's a reason why the dude that reported the story works at The Patch - he's a racist [expletive]

https://www.cjr.org/united_states_project/chicago-reader-racist-cover-mark-konkol.php

2-1 says he's part of George and/or Michael's country club. Dude's a piece of horsefeathers, but if his sources are valid, we can't discount the story.

Also, Patch gobbled up a bunch of suburban publications and writers back in the day, so it's got some weight to it. It's not great, but it's also not Barstool.

At this point I don't think any other beat writer or anyome has remotely confirmed, right?

There may well be something there, but maybe not exactly as it's reported.

There hasn't been any independent confirmation yet, but the Bears' FO hasn't issued any denials yet, either.

Something clearly is up and my gut is telling me this story broke before the Bears' FO got to talk to Nagy and inform him of his imminent firing. Weirdly enough, this might result in Nagy being spared until after the season due to the McCaskeys trying to save face.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I bet he survives until the end of the season now.

the rumor is Nagy was told on Monday that his last game will be Thursday, not that he would be fired on Thursday and hasn't been told yet. Maybe the rumor got it wrong, but thats whats being spread

Wild conspiracy theory; McCaskeys sell team to Pace and Nagy for $10 and the promise that Q and his legions are the only ones allowed to attend games at the new Donald Trump Stadium at Arlington Park. Biden is assassinated by Rittenhouse because shut happens and Donny Jr becomes puppet king

That has as much validity as Nagy's "productive" meeting

Prediction. The plan was to fire him, but there's too much egg on face now. They'll wait until either mathematical elimination or Week 16 (when they can start interviewing candidates) as either of those deadlines would be justifiable and they can deny the report.

Really wondering where Pace fits in this. Undecided? Staying? Gone? I'm guessing staying, but we'll see.

He's clearly trying to distance himself from Nagy in this situation. The stuff on the broadcast with Romo and how "teams were calling the Bears to trade for their players". Him staying away from making a statement on these rumors. I think Pace's fate is still undecided, but I think they are more tied together than I originally thought.

I also don't know why there would be egg on their faces. Everyone knows he's getting fired. He almost got fired after a playoff appearance last year. 3-7 definitely isn't even debatable if he stays. If they lose tomorrow, fire him. Nobody will fault them for firing the coach that gave the Lions their first win on national TV. If they win tomorrow, frame it as a mutual parting of ways. Blame the rumors and stress on his family w/ the chants at the kid's game.

He's going to get fired anyway. Who cares if it leaked? Who cares if it's ugly? If everyone knows it, get it over with. Don't leave him and the players hanging on just for the sake of history. Try to salvage some development under an interim coach, get a jump on everyone else in the league in the next hire. Sure it sucks for Nagy and embarrassing the way it came out, but there's not a good way to get fired.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like Nagy wasn't scheduled to meet with leadership, and said he wasn't, given the short week. But then he did meet with leadership. After that he cancelled all his meetings. And leadership hasn't said boo about any of this.

Seems like he's fired to me. Keeping him around through week 17 to save face isn't going to work out well for the Bears. It will only increase the swirling questions around Nagy's fate. That's quite a bit of time for mounting questions to be lobbed at the Bears from the press, and they do still have games to play. It's much better to just get it over with now.

If they are keeping him they probably do need to address it at some point, but I wouldn't put it past them to hold on, whether they planned to or not.

Yeah I've learned to never underestimate the Bears handling something poorly, so I wouldn't be surprised either. I think they'll find it to be unnecessarily awkward if they do hold on.

After Nagy, if Pace remains I do not believe its a good idea to leave the selection of a HC up to him. They've got to go outside, find someone who'll give them advice, direction on the best fit for a HC. I know there's a best fit, McCaskey's are not capable of locating that best fit, this is a problem.

While there may be no good way to be fired, there's definitely a bad way.

Maybe the leak is fake enough that it was out of their control, but their org response to it is obviously lacking.

But if this IS his last game, is the response really lacking?

I kinda think they told hm "win on T-day or you're fired" and the rumor mill turned it into "you're fired after Thursdays game"

also, if teams are calling Pace for trades, what pieces would net us the best draft picks in return?

Mack

Arob

Hicks

who else?

Trade deadline is passed. Hicks and ARob are FA. Might net comp picks, but no trades there.

I think Mack could get a second rounder maybe? Maybe a third too?

If Quinn ends up at 15+ sacks maybe he could net a 3rd.

Anyone else of trade value is young guys. Unless you wanna shop Roquan if an extension seems unlikely, who else?
