While there may be no good way to be fired, there's definitely a bad way.

Maybe the leak is fake enough that it was out of their control, but their org response to it is obviously lacking.

But if this IS his last game, is the response really lacking?

At this stage, I'd probably at least issue a like 2 sentence statement denying the report.

But also, ooof, if they pre-determined the firing and only held on cuz of the short week. And then someone let it leak and didn't even let it get leaked in a good way.

nah, if anything, not saying anything seems to be confirming their is something to the leak. Leaking it is probably the easy way of saying to the media "yo, Nagys toast"

The Bears ownership doesnt owe any more information to anyone, really

If it's true though, then denying the report looks worse when you fire him on Friday. Plus, it's too late for that now with a day having passed and the game being a day away.

And I don't think the leak itself is that big of a deal. It's not a surprise that Nagy could get fired on Friday. The issue is how it was leaked, which I'm not all that concerned about.

After Nagy, if Pace remains I do not believe its a good idea to leave the selection of a HC up to him. They've got to go outside, find someone who'll give them advice, direction on the best fit for a HC. I know there's a best fit, McCaskey's are not capable of locating that best fit, this is a problem.

To me, if your GM isn't going to be allowed to hire his HC, then he shouldn't be the GM.

But, I think the Bears have put themselves into these awkward in-between positions before, where they have things like Hatley being "VP of Personnel" instead of GM.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happens just like you say. But I've disliked Pace from the beginning, and I think it's time for both of these clowns to go.

I agree they don't owe info. But again, who leaked it. If Pace/Ted/George.. Yikes. If someone else, why did they know? I guess maybe the slightly larger circle of the board maybe knew? But you've got a bad leak from that group too. That's just not a great organizarional sign IMO.

If the leak is true in entirety, that's a face-palm decision IMO.

The only outcome that makes me feel somewhat better is if the leak is primarily false. Let's say that "he's a dead amn walking" comment was miscommunicated or something along those lines. But I think they may be best suited to put out some response now, especially after the Biggs report.

So tomorrow's game will be the football equivalent of chopping the head off a Thanksgiving turkey and watching it run around the yard on pure motor response, before finally falling over to die.

Fun times.

Plus, if Nagy's final decision as HC is to not play Fields, he'll be going out on a high note.

I can get the desire to be above the rumor mill chatter to a large extent, but given everything I think it's an awful decision to let your coach and players away in the wind with this all.

"No decisions have been made regarding the contracts of any coach or front office staff. The Bears organization remain committed to winning and will continue to evaluate our progress towards that goal. Each persons primary goal in the organization is on the Detroit Lions game this week."

Somehthing like that is all that's really needed if the leak is mostly BS. If the leak is mostly true, there isn't a great response, but I do think the leak is a big issue then and a bad sign.

I feel like trying to get Geo and Mikey to act like a 21st century org is truly defeating on a personal level. If thats what you want, you should be all for a quick sale to Bezos or some other like-minded megarich dude

I do mostly agree there. Things had seemingly improved a little with George as far as org optics like this go. So I was a little optimistic they were back to like mostly in over their head and not completely. But perhaps my optimism got the best of me.

i wouldn't mind Bezos as long as he has decided to step away from Amazon and really focus on developing the Bears, mainly. but I worry the Bears would just be a trophy for him..

Its fine if it's a trophy. He would almost certainly be hiring a right hand person still to do most heavy lifting. Someone like Khan or Kroenke who are pretty involved still have highly trusted President types doing a lot of work. He could go hire the best sports exec he can find to lead his global sports empire (Bears, AH stadium, and anything else he wants to add to it).

Doesn't surprise me one bit with the way he said Andy was still the starter one day, and then the next day naming Fields the starter. Clearly someone nudged (or shoved) him into making that decision.

I have to admit, I dont think I've ever experienced that. Maybe the Berry Sanders years, but like, 2 years tops

And that's pretty much the rub here, isn't it? The NFL over the last 20ish years learned from Bill Belichick that you can flat-out ignore press conferences or be a complete non-entity at press conferences, and the press will still get down on bended knee lest they lose their precious behind the scenes access. Ryan Pace sure as hell learned it during the John Fox years when Fox got away with not telling the press that one of the Bears' players (can't remember who it was for the life of me and Google brought up zero results) went MIA in Lake Forest and was considered potentially armed and dangerous.

It's been beaten to death, but the Bears' FO absolutely sucks when it comes to putting on a public face. If they wanted to put those reports to bed, someone from the FO should have been the first to the podium yesterday to shoot down the rumors and place focus on Thursday's game. That didn't happen and now the fallout from it has become comical.

His successes far outweigh his failures, and that has held true even as he's branched out from Amazon's original vision. I'd celebrate if Bezos bought the team.

Just detroit fans in general. I used to work with a lot of them. They were relentlessly annoying when the Lions went 9-1 against the Bears during the 10's. Pistons fans still hate the Bulls and Red Wings fans were assholes during their dynasty. My favorite is one season the Lions went 4-0 in the preseason and every morning when I came into work this co-worker would come over and brag about how the Lions were going to stomp the Bears and was talking about how the Lions were better at every position except Linebacker. He pushed me into making a bet for whenever the first Bears/Lions game was that year where the loser had to wear the winners jersey to work for an entire week. The season started and....well this was the year the Lions went 0-16. He shut up pretty quickly. But the next summer after FA he started talking about how great of an offseason the Lions had and how they 'completely closed the gap'.

Come to think of it, that co-worker definitely shaped/skewed my opinion of Detroit fans, but he's not the only annoying one I've encountered in person or online by a long shot.

you should try living in Minneapolis some time. They actually like the Bears a bit, loved calling the Metrodome the "RollerDome" a la Ditka, but holy hell do they get loud for a franchise who cant win (or more recently get to ) a SB

It was the right call, but if you are going to overrule the coach and demand Fields starts, fire Nagy the same day.

Absolutely.

It's been widely disseminated that he's all but gone. You have to address that. Letting a lame duck coach a Thanksgiving day game is a laughably terrible decision. Letting the coach and special teams coach be the only guys that face the media on this issue, plus ARob in his preemptive press conference, is cowardly. A member of the front office has to step in here and say something.

WTF are you talking about?

Yes they do. Ownership owes a ton of information. If this ownership, in this season, with all the circumstances surrounding it don't owe any information to anybody, then nobody owes anybody any information, ever.
