Just FYI, the article headline buries the lede for anyone who didn't click through.

So Nagy already has been fired and hes gonna coach why? Just cuz it's a short week? That's not a good enough reason.

I think it's weird, but there's precedent for stuff like that happening, sorta.

Hendry running the 2011 draft. Cutler said Lovie had informed the team he had been fired before his final game. I'm sure there are many others.

precedent doesn't make it not stupid

I go back to Hatley running the draft when everybody knew he was gone the next week. It's dumb.

on one hand it feels like his firing has been building for a long time and inevitable, on the other hand the situation feels knee jerk

I'm ready to move on. I feel disappointed in what I thought Nagy would be but never was, but I'm done watching what Nagy has become.

What's knee jerk about it? It's been a complete clown show since camp and the handling of the media with the Fields, Jenkins and other situations. Started off decently, another 5 game losing streak, had 2 weeks to build on the best performance of Fields' career and he drops an all too familiar dud against the league's worst pass D.

the fact that the Bears have never fired a coach midseason makes it feel knee-jerk, even if it is a result of not firing him at the end of last season.

Reassign Pace if you must just don’t have him making any personnel or staffing decisions.

I would honestly hate that outcome more than just letting Pace keep his current role. Letting Pace be a creeper sniffing around and undermining the new guy is just ugh.

Yeah, the more I think about this, the more I hate it. He's a personnel and staffing decision guy. That's all the experience he has (besides scouting, which would be a big demotion). If not involved in personnel decisions, he has no other expertise to really add to the organization. I thought maybe he could be heavily involved in the Arlington Heights stuff, but he's only slightly more qualified to oversee that than I am.

The biggest problem I have with it is his philosophies are terrible, and if anything he would instill those upon the next guy in some way shape or form. He treats draft picks like peanut shells. His solution to fixing a problem is drafting/signing/acquiring as many guys at the same position as possible to "guarantee" the hole gets filled. He is very bad at asset management, and if he's some sort of prez, the one thing he will direct is the overall philosophy of the front office.

So you are basically suggesting a situation where he is still basically in charge.

Some of the stuff I'm now seeing suggested is he could have a psuedo demotion and still stick around. Which sound incredibly toxic for any new GM to work in.

I don't know much about the guy since he's such a creapy weirdo recluse. But it could work. Isn't that how the White Sox treated Ken Williams? Maybe he can take on more of a go between to ownership and mouthpiece at league meetings, without driving personnel decisions. But I have my doubts.

I would take that situation in a heartbeat if it was offered though.

Why the horsefeathers do the McCaskey's like Pace so much?

apparently because he modernized their football operations department and they want him around to have influence over the new stadium from a football perspective. But mostly because they are not equipped to run a modern football franchise and refuse to admit it while making the same mistakes over and over again.

I guess its a classic Reinsdorf move since that's somewhat the GarPax setup.

So don't think I like it still.

I would say in no particular order.

He looks the part (Trump's "central casting" obsession is not unique) and presents as intelligent and thoughtful.

He cleaned up a complete mess following Emery.

He has "modernized" the football ops.

There's been quite a bit of good mixed in with the disasters.

He probably found the franchise QB.

And probably most importantly he provides a sense of continuity, which all billionaire's value above all else.

I do still believe the report is probably accurate, but it is interesting that some of the most connected Bears reporters in the Chicago media have been trying to track down confirmation all day and no one has gotten even a nibble.
