The Bears ownership doesnt owe any more information to anyone, really

WTF are you talking about?

Yes they do. Ownership owes a ton of information. If this ownership, in this season, with all the circumstances surrounding it don't owe any information to anybody, then nobody owes anybody any information, ever.

or what, Chicago residents will go scorched earth and burn down Halas Hall? As I posted above, the McCaskeys have long ago set an expectation of cowardice & general ineptitude. If those were things that could effect their power over the franchise, the results have long ago taken hold. Why would this year be any different?

sell the team, ya schmucks

Yes, to the selling of the team, by all means yes. I stated the McCaskey's do not care about winning and the Bears will not win until they are sold. Someone correctly pointed out they do care about winning just don't know how, it's evident by their loyalty to Pace. This whole mess is squarely on the shoulders of Pace, think about it, his 2021 plan, until Broncos and 49ers, etc. got stupid and allowed Fields to fall in the draft, was Andy Dalton backed up by Nick Foles.

While there may be no good way to be fired, there's definitely a bad way.

Maybe the leak is fake enough that it was out of their control, but their org response to it is obviously lacking.

But if this IS his last game, is the response really lacking?

Absolutely.

It's been widely disseminated that he's all but gone. You have to address that. Letting a lame duck coach a Thanksgiving day game is a laughably terrible decision. Letting the coach and special teams coach be the only guys that face the media on this issue, plus ARob in his preemptive press conference, is cowardly. A member of the front office has to step in here and say something.

I agree with all of that. But if it is true, and Nagy is fired on Friday then isn't that addressing it? They won't just send a press release. They'd have to have a press conference and address the leak then. If it's not true, then yeah that's disasterous. Hell, it's terribly handled either way, but I guess I'm saying firing him and making the report true kinda makes the last 2 days of handling this OK. Just say, "yeah, we're sorry it got out. Matt was a professional in handling the situation/working on Thanksgiving, blah blah blah".

But you still allowed your team to play a game in the middle of a season with a lame duck coach that everybody knew was lame duck.

This team has not only sucked with their personnel decision, but timing has always been awful. You make the move Sunday night and announce it Monday. Short week is meaningless, unless you are cleaning house of the entire coaching staff, which they are not going to do. You can't make this decision, see it leaked and discussed all week and then play Thanksgiving Day without addressing the issue. Firing him Friday doesn't negate the lack of response throughout the week.

If the report is true (or at least the part that it was pre-determined) I still have a big problem with how this played out. But yea there isn't really a favorable way to address it now. Although I don't think they could do more harm by addressing it now rather than wait it out.

"a" game? I feel like its been 4 or 5 games that everyone knew he was a lame duck

There's a huge difference between a literal lame duck, if that's what's going on and a presumed one.

like what, acceptance (on the ownership part)?

so they'll let one more game go by? or he'll "resign" on friday?

I mean they could still fire him and not be lying. But at this point it wouldn't surprise me if they held off. Even if they embarrass on Thursday, George could say the external factors played a large role. Who knows where their mind really is.

or, the Patch just decided to run with a totally untrue rumor

I don't think that's the case given that its not some random twitter rumor and the fact that the Chicago media ran with it big time. Either they got some details incorrect or the plan changed after it blew up or both (like: the decision was made but Nagy was NOT told on Monday, with everything blowing up they decided to wait until the end of the season).

Nagy's lack of effusive denial, the weird cancelling of all meetings, etc. Too much smoke to be totally untrue.

I get what you are saying. My point of view is though, if it's true, then it's just as (if not more) damaging to come out and deny the report on Monday and still fire him on Friday. It's slightly different from the old "vote of confidence" before firing someone just because of the specifics given in the reported rumor.

Of course, it sounds like this is all untrue so my hypothetical is probably moot. And it's certainly not like it's above this organization to be incompetent.

Best case scenario is something like:

Source: Nagy is a dead man walking and everyone knows it. He'll be gone come Friday morning.

Reporter: Nagy knows this too?

Source: oh yea he knows he's done.

Reporter: "Matt Nagy has been fired and his last game will be Thursday."

Eeehhhh.

Worst case scenario: the report was 100% true but now Geroge will reverse course due to the backlash.
