Villar at SS with the SP profile of the team would be a complete horsefeathering disaster, imo. I don’t get why he’s being talked about so much with us. He’s a butcher in the field.

Because I'm pretty much assuming Wisdom will fail, Villar slides over to 3B and Hoerner plays the most SS.

That defense would still be terrible, imo. I’d be more inclined to punt offense at SS and sign a Simmons or Iglesias and go with defense and lean in to the strengths with the pitching we have and shift Nico to 2B and try Madrigal in the OF. This is of course assuming we aren’t getting Correa or Story.

If you're going to go to Simmons, you might as well just play Alcantara.

If/When they miss on Correa, I think the easy pivot will end up being Nick Ahmed.

this makes me want to kill myself

With universal DH I would not be opposed to a Schwarber reunion

With the DH now in both leagues, his price is going to be sky-high. He was made for the position. Voglebach is going to make some money too.

This is more connecting dots than a rumor with an actual Cubs connection, but I really hope it happens.

Baseball Trade Values says that taking on Hosmer's contract would be worth something like Robert Hassell and Ryan Weathers. Add in a small piece from our side, like say Alec Mills, and it could be Hassell and Paddack.

Like unless it prevents a run at Correa you've gotta something like that if its available.

Too lazy to look up the gif, so just imagine Jean-Luc saying, "Make it so"

I have a hard time seeing the Hosmer thing work out for a handful of reasons. What might be more likely is especially if they miss on Correa, trying to get something like Kim and Paddack for lesser prospects. The Padres get their flexibility, keep their best prospects, and save face while only dealing from the fringe of the roster, the Cubs get a true defensive SS and a good SP gamble while still having money to drop on e.g. Conforto.

There was a rumor maybe 3 weeks ago that the Cubs were planning to offer Rizzo a contract as soon as the lockout was over. Should find out pretty quickly if that's true. Lost a little respect for him with his vaccination issues but would still love to have him back, especially if the shift is banned. IIRC, Rizzo was the most shifted player in the majors over the last couple of seasons.

Too many NFT guys on this team already.

The shift won't be banned this year. Part of the agreement is that after this season, MLB has 45 days to push through any rule changes it desires for the next year, which is thought to include shifts and a pitch clock, but those wouldn't kick in until '23.

All I want is Correa, Freeman, Conforto and Rodon. And Suzuki. Maybe a couple more relievers. Heck, just bring back Tepera and Chafin.

That's not too much to ask, is it?

Unfortunately, you're probably getting a soccer team instead.

I like the fit on and off the field. If he hasn’t been an underrated player, he’s been at least a very competent and pretty competitive one (for a long time too, very good NCAA player)

I don't want Nick Ahmed simply because something called the "Nick Ahmed game" exists. I don't even remember what he did in that game to kill the Cubs, just that he sucks for it.
