Feels like there's a pretty straight line for Bryant to the Phillies right now. They're publicly interested and among those teams the best fit in terms of competitiveness and still current interest. Plus he can play with Harper.

FWIW...I think Correa is happening. Previous post about the logjam is spot on and that's playing right into Jed's hands. CC will have to make a quick decision to get into camp and get going. Seems like the Cubs are the only team that has been consistently in on him. Astros had years to get an extension done and didn't, can't imagine he's going to back there.

THAT SAID - KB's market has been insanely quiet so far. Don't believe Rockies will make a legitimate run. I think their "interest" is just fan service. Wonder if KB would want to run it back on a contract with an opt-out after year 1 or 2. Of all Cubs traded, seems like he and Jed had the best post-trade rapport.

The Rockies thing for KB seems like a clear cut case of an agent leaking a rumor to try to get another team to up their offer just a bit more. I still think he ends up with the Mariners.

The Mariners thing seems like a longer-shot to me after getting Winker and Suarez from the Reds, unless they have plans to flip one of them.

I totally forgot about Winker and Suarez. Yeah, Phillies seem more appropriate in that case.

for no good reason I'm gonna assume this means the Cubs got Suzuki and are the team lined up to take Hosmer + goodies

While we're assuming things, under this hypothetical Campusano is among the goodies we're getting and Contreras got wind of it which is why he scrubbed the Cubs from his social media accounts

To your earlier question, this is my preferred path forward if we (stupidly) avoid the shortstop market. Buy some players/prospects via a bad contract, fill out the team with some efficient one year deals and then roll into the season. The odds of the team being more than a 5/6 seed are vanishingly low, it would basically require a Giants-esque ability to successfully pull levers with the 2nd division types on the roster, but the team would be extremely well set up for 2023+ IMO.

Yeah there's a path to something like Suzuki, Hosmer, Paddack, Givens without paying much more than you would have for Correa alone(meaning even with suboptimal spending future flexibility is there). That team would lack starpower unless something really unexpected happens(Hoerner/Madrigal becomes Pedroia, Davis supernovas, etc) but could pretty reasonably expect average production throughout the lineup and rotation.

lol low balled

GL in free agency

Remember that's Rizzo and his agent's perception of lowball. It's possible the Cubs ended up offering a fair(ish) deal compared to what he thought he was worth. Rizzo being unvaxxed might end up costing him too if New York decides to pass since he can't play at home and in Toronto. No way they're going to waste money on half a season of him.

I don't think it's disrespectful at all what the Cubs did in trading him but I do think he said he preferred to remain on the Cubs and go "down with the ship".

Unvaxxed guy on the downslope, options have to be looking dicey. I bet that 5/$70 that was supposedly offered is looking pretty good right now.

Of course it is and of course he wasn't low balled

Rizzo is a major douche bro and I don't want him back

which is probably why he's out liking tweets about him being lowballed. He's bitter as he realizes he's not getting anything close to what the Cubs offered.

Also I'm horrible and a hypocrite but I still want him back as long as its not a ridiculous amount. I can completely understand why many don't want him back though. I just want one of those guys back whether its KB, Rizzo, Schwarber. Javy would have been my top choice but that ship has obviously sailed.

i didn't really want him back but isn't that pretty cheap?

Probably got a discount since he won’t be able to play any games in NYC or Toronto until the rules change.

It isn't prohibitive, but wasn't Schwindel at least as good as Rizzo post trade?

It could be a good value if he stays relatively healthy, especially if he benefits more than most from the shift changes.
