with the way AK is giving away 1sts, it's clear that he's confident the bulls will be good now and for a while. the difference in this front office from the last one is just night and day. there are actual expectations.

And if he's wrong, I'm thinking the AK marriage will be a lot shorter than the Pax one. Which I'm pretty okay with.

Will be really interesting to see what happens with Lauri. I would assume if the Bulls signed him they wouldnt be able to sign Lavine to an extension. So it will probably be a S&T. If so, I hope we get back a veteran defensive big to replace Thad Young.

Honestly, if they can just get a pick or even some seconds, I'd take that with the picks AK just dealt. Hell, shop White for some draft capital too at this point. You'll generate some TPEs in those deals too.

Top 10

Guards - LaVine, Ball, Caruso,

Forwards - Derozan, Williams, Brown, BAE signing?

Big - Vooch, Simonović, Vet Min

Then Ayo, Green, Dotson, and whatever other two way or vet min guys.

Edit, they may also be able to get Caruso with the Theis TPE and then split the MLE two ways for a depth wing and big, along with the BAE.

This trade makes the 2023 first irrelevant IMO because it likely won't be a lottery pick. 2025 might hurt but whatever. Hording draft picks is a GarPax thing, and we just did it for 4 years and got Lauri, Carter, White and Pat Williams. People on the radio are arguing that we just built the same type of team that we all wanted blown up when Butler was here, but that Bulls team was really really hollow with no strong assets outside of Butler. Build a winning culture with this team and put yourself in a position to land a superstar if one is out there and wants to come here.

If it fails miserably hopefully they can deal LaVine for a decent blow up package still in a couple years.

Does anyone know if this means Lauri is gone too? It would be cool to keep him because you could always trade someone if it's not working out.

Also I think Thad might have been a better fit for this current team, even though I'm excited about the roster as a whole.

I cant see him signing here. If they did sign him it would make it really really difficult to extend Lavine, and definitely unable to extend Lavine before he becomes an UFA. Much better to use him in a S&T to get a veteran defensive expiring big IMO

I think the Lavine extension has sailed, unless Lavine is prepared to give up a ton of money to lock in now. Hell technically reach FA, but Bulls will still be able to offer the biggest max deal and I'm sure they will.

I was reading that even with this move they can still get one done this offseason. I have completely lost track of how the CBA works so I cant do the math myself.

Plus they have an actual coach now.

Who knows. It's certainly way more confusing than it used to be. Either way, I'm not too worried about extension or him technically reaching FA as long as Bulls can offer the biggest max in 2022.

Who is better than the Bulls in the East now?

Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Heat, 76ers then Bulls? Celtics rebound maybe?

Knicks, Hawks might be just as good as the Heat, but who really knows right now.

even this horsefeathers likes this

Yep. If we wanna get lazy with the comps, AK looks like he may be more like a Riley. Just constantly in the picture, always moving. I know a lot of fans still want "the Process" type building, but I'm okay with the opposite. Obviously could fail, but so could "the Process."

I'm fond of pointing out that Philly made the 2nd round the year before they launched The Process (I know they only did because Rose's knee exploded) and still haven't been past that round since.

the lakers have gotten monk and nunn on below market contracts even though they haven't made much playing in the league yet

i can only surmise that adele is funneling money to them through klutch sports

I'd tier the Eastern playoff teams like this assuming health...

1) Brooklyn

small gap

2) Milwaukee

big gap

3) Miami, Philly

small gap

4) Atlanta, Boston, Chicago

small gap

5) Hornets, Knicks, Raptors

Looks like a 48 win type team to me and if Billy pushes the right buttons they can crack the top 4 IMHO

What are some good advanced stats for NBA these days? I know VORP is often criticized, but I just looked it up and the Bulls have 3 of the 25 best VORP players from last year:

7 - Vucevic

23 - Lavine

25 - DeRozan

Though if you look at WS/48 its worse:

26 - DeRozan

51 - Lavine

60 - DeRozan

It should be noted that they traded their best player the offseason after they made the 2nd round (Iguadola) along with a future pick and a couple of their young players (including Vucevic) and proceeded to miss the playoffs because they player they traded for didn't play a single game with the team (Bynum). That's why they started the Process, because they did a huge win now move and it blew up in their face.

But yeah, it's no guarantee. Although looking back, the 76ers had the worst GM's in the league for a couple years there. They had so many riches and squandered them.

The Pacers are hoping better health and way better coaching sends them at least back to where they were two years ago when they had a 50 win pace during the pandemic season. It just shows the depth of the East right now that you didn't even think of them and mentioned 10 teams!

1) horsefeathers yea. Don’t love DD, but he fits well. Gives your offense a different element and his ability to get to the line is much needed with how infrequent the rest of the starting lineup does.

2) I’m 99% sure Zach cannot be offered an extension now that we are operating over the cap. But we can offer the biggest contract next year and I have no doubt he stays.

3) the bulls are the only NBA team with 3 qualified players in the top 25 in PER last year (Nets would have if Durant played enough to qualify).

4) any confirmation if we signed Caruso with the MLE or TPE yet? I’m hoping TPE as there are still some FAs out there that could help solidify the roster with the MLE.
