I don't know why anyone 'likes' anything on Twitter. If I like something enough to signal I like it, I'll retweet it. If I don't like it enough to retweet it, or don't want people seeing that I like it, then I shouldn't be clicking the button anyway.

Len is a huge historian of baseball broadcasting and reverence for it. I can see him nerding out and wanting to do radio instead of TV, but judging from the radio he does preseason and occasionally filling in for Pat, he is so much better on TV than he is on radio. If this is what he wants to do I wish him well.

My likes were essentially my bookmarks for a while, until they actually introduced the concept of bookmarks. But that's still a little clunky, so I use a combination of both. Not super worried about my 6 followers. When you have a large Twitter presence (as Chris Myers does), I assume you know exactly what you're doing.

If Len decided to leave the Cubs because he didn’t want to occasionally share the broadcast booth with a third person or because he didn’t want to wear a suit then he’s a child. I sincerely hope that’s not the reason.

If Len was that bothered by the 3-man booth, I imagine he would have brought up with management. He doesn't seem like the type who would just take his ball and go home over a single issue like that. I'm sure they have some sort of employee evaluation / end of year meeting where he could have raised his concerns. At that point, a good employer would take those concerns into consideration, especially if they are interested in retaining their talent. On the other hand, if Len voiced concerns along those lines and didn't get the response he was looking for, he has every right to look elsewhere for an opportunity where he can feel more respected and supported. Whether or not any of these two particular issues actually came into play, I think they were only symptoms of larger problems related to the overall culture of Marquee and Sinclair. Do they really want someone who has strong opinions and can think for himself?

this is a weird take. if my friend (or even some random person i follow) makes a tweet that i thought was funny or tweets about something cool that happened to them or something, i can like it without wanting to share the actual tweet with whoever the hell follows me.

there are plenty of situations where a like makes more sense than an RT and vice versa.

Most of my likes have been accidental, for what that's worth.

again, if len really wants to just nerd out and wanted to do radio without having to uproot his family and this was just a timing thing, so be it. if that's what he wants, he should do whatever makes him happy. i tend to, like others, suspect that all the nonsense going on with the Cubs had at least something to do with nudging him that way, but maybe it really is just the opportunity presenting himself. whatever.

but please let these idiots not make the same mistake the white sox did with TLR and ignore the immediate backlash for what is so obviously a terrible choice. do not horsefeathering give this job to chris myers.

I use likes to let pretty ladies on the internet know I enjoy what they are doing. But they gotta earn the RT

Fun fact: Len was a Cubs broadcaster as long as Harry Caray was.

my first instinct would have been to think it was longer, but i also wouldn't know the exact year harry started with the cubs without looking it up.

Harry started for the Cubs in 1982 and worked until he passed away after the 1997 season. Len started in 2005 and went through the 2020 season.

And nobody, NOBODY, held that job in the years between.

My hottest in the moment take is that if Len wanted to do radio so badly then they should've put Pat(who has very much lost his fastball) out to pasture.

I think if we also see him pick up some national games, I'll legitimately believe he left for the right reasons. As the Cubs announcer, Len took almost no days off. If he's trading 155 Cubs tv games for ~100 White Sox radio games, ~25 White Sox TV games, and ~10 National Broadcasts, that's a real signal to me that he was bored or burnt out or something like that.

i don't disagree, but they'd never do that (and len would probably want nothing to do with forcing him out)

aren't you my anti-vin scully buddy too?

this is dumb as horsefeathers

why the hell is he obligated to put up with dumb horsefeathers he doesn't like at work if he doesn't have to? that makes him a child? FOH

and i'm pretty sure he never complained about the suits publicly (and even sorta did the opposite). if he had a problem with it, he has every right to look elsewhere and it's none of your damn business why he was or wasn't happy with his work environment.

I mean, it’s not anyone on this board’s business who the Cubs employ, hire, or fire, but yes, Len disrupting his career trajectory (and likely income!) over sharing airtime or his employer’s dress code would be immature and childish.

The dude seems like a great guy and he can do whatever he want: I hope that he’s happy! But if that was the reason he probably wasn’t in it for the long haul anyway.

It's not any of the customer's business what product the company chooses to sell them?

What the horsefeathers kind of nonsensical corporate apologia is this nonsense?

That comment was related to the interpersonal relationship between on-air talent and their employer and personal reasons as to why/why not the talent stays or goes.

Of course the product is the customer’s business. To that end, you or anyone else could stop consuming said product and prove that the employer’s calculation in changing the product was incorrect. Currency can be exchanged for goods and services.
