The Sox announced they've "agreed to part ways".

He's like bizarro Dusty Baker; Renteria gets canned just as the team is starting to get good. Baker gets hired after the team has a good roster.

Lots of losses in Ricky's managerial career. But he's had to at least have fun watching the development of young players enter the league the past 7-8 years.

I feel kinda bad for the guy. I probably shouldn't, because he isn't a great manager and he has done fairly well for himself overall, but it has to get frustrating. Every time he almost gets to the top of the ladder someone knocks him off and says "Go climb that other ladder now."

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the White Sox plan to reach out to Tony La Russa about their managerial opening.

Some of the early speculation has been focused on Alex Cora and A.J. Hinch as Rick Renteria's replacement, but we didn't see this one coming. La Russa is 76 years old and hasn't managed in the majors since 2011, turning down multiple opportunities in recent seasons, but the Hall of Famer has a close relationship with White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. It would be full circle for La Russa in a sense, as he began his managerial career with the White Sox from 1979-1986. One thing we do know is that the White Sox will have no shortage of interested candidates for one of the most appealing situations in the game.

The MLBPA protects players from having 2020 stats used in arbitration, but this guy gets fired for taking the WS farther than expected and finishing with a better record than the Cubs. The shocking thing is that Cooper was fired because Reinsdorf is noted for loyalty.

Gotta be Hinch. I doubt they make the move unless there’s a guy they were really eyeing and had to have. They also mentioned recent postseason success as a quality they were looking for. If Hinch is the guy, it’s a good move pending how they deal with the cheating PR shitstorm.

No way Tony gets the job. He’s been out 10 years now. I give him 50/50 he can even escape the nursing home.

Joe Maddon is going to go from the oldest manager in baseball 2 years ago to the 3rd oldest manager who is almost 10 years younger than the oldest manager.
